Are you going for a correct it rolled out of the factory that way restoration or do you want a more hey this is in the field restoration? Will you be entering it into judging at the national MVPA convention or just enjoying your truck? If your answer is yes I want a factory restoration and I...
I don't think I could drive a HMMWV as a DD. To me they are uncomfortable and I get kind of claustrophobic in them. But that's MHO. Is there a reason the CUCV isn't being used as a DD? It's your choice but for the money I'd invest in making the cab more quiet on the CUCV and keep that as the...
Stars and unit markings were not put on at the factory. They were put on at the unit level. So,, yes the 18 or 19 year old Private who was given the task to put the stars on really didn't care how close he got it as long as it was close enough so he wouldn't get yelled at. :D :grd:
The only problem I've heard on taking the top off is that it doesn't seal back correctly when you put it back on. Everyone one I've ever spoken to has said that after they put the top back on it leaks. So I guess the moral of the story is either leave it on and never take it off or take it off...
HMMWV Some assembly required! Good thing your not trying to put it together under a Christmas tree....lol!
 Good luck with your project. Keep the pictures coming!
I like the 700r4 because it has a lower 1st gear than the Th400 and the higher 4th gear. That would be my reason for going with the 700r4 over the Th400, but as you said you are not looking to run any faster than the truck did when it was new so that will be a good combo for you. Keep the pics...
I know when I had my M211 and I redid all the wheel cylinders and the hydro and the master basically redid the whole brake system I took me like 4 times around the system to get all the air out. But I was doing it with the old helper system. "Push the peddle down!" "Down!" open bleeder wait...
I would like to see more of the engine and the transmission set up. I would also be interested in the camper part. The only thing about a camper that would bother me is not having any windows. But it looks like a very nice truck.
I think the 6 is the order of march number. In other words it was the 6th vehicle in the convoy. Otherwise I think your right on the money. Maybe Chief will have more information for you.
It looks like you have a project on your hands. Thanks for posting the pics. The good news is just about every part is available either through used surplus or via new dealers. The bad news is many people think their parts are worth the price of gold. But you should be able to make a good...
Looking at the spec sheet that was posted earlier in the thread it looks like it's a cross between a M151 and a M38A1. Almost like someone took had a M38A1 with no front axle so they took the front suspension from a M151 and put on the M38A1 and you have the Kia jeep. Indpendent front with...
How about doing an uban digital cammo. You would have to possible work the details out in photoshop but I think it would look cool! I've often wondered how a tiger strip pattern would look on an MV. Kinda of like the Airforce's ABUs.
I saw your truck along with some others. If I had known it was yours I would have said high. I got two very needed parts for my truck. A drivers side door in good condition and an NOS transmission cover. I was so happy...still am! I thought it was on ok show I have seen and been to better...
