    Dukw?

"This is a rare opportunity to own a fully restored piece of history" I hope the Realator is a bit more honest when she sells a home. This is as blatant a lie as they come. Even at $25k you are still missing TONS of parts and have years of work. I'd be hard pressed to see $15k worth...

    GL was easy!

The truck I won was re-listed due to a default from another auction. Found out when I went to look at it. Guy that works the lot in Mechanicsburg seems pretty straight up and honest. So far my first win is going like it should. If I ever did anther auction I would preview (as SO MANY...

    Dukw?

As far as DUKW tour operators there is a big one in FL, one in Philly, the one mentioned in D.C., and another I believe in Chicago. I'm sure DUKWs are great fun, but like the old saying goes 'Jack of all Trades, Master of none'. I don't think a DUKW would be my first choice to run to Lowes...

    Dukw?

you can ask whatever you want :) MV magazines are the last place I would look for an MV. Most sellers have no idea of the value of an MV and try to recoup their COSTS. Not the same thing.

    Dukw?

Any MV is going to cost $$$. I know there are at least two commercial tour outfits that still operate WWII DUKWs and sell them/have parts. Plus there are LOTS of parts sources. Crappy part is that most of those parts are overseas in Europe. ANY MV is cheaper to buy restored than to...

    DOT-5 from JCWitney

I saw that but in the past have had poor results with Amazon's shipping charges. I ordered two cargo baskets for my mountain bike and was charged S&H x2. I then ordered travel mugs as gifts (4) and was charged S&H x4. So either its random or some places just rip you off.. that's why I skipped...

Why GL Deuces have no Brakes

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/42567-master-cylinder-vent-line-vs-breather.html It appears that its NOT temprature related at all... the gas tank and MC are connected, so the gas tank can put a vacuum on the MC. The fix is in the PM article.

Why GL Deuces have no Brakes

In a correctly vented system the pressure in the MC is 14.7 or whatever the barometric pressure is. The fluid in the lines is horizontal and thus not adding/removing any 'head' in the reservoir. I *really* don't think the that the spring in the vent is that fast acting that it will slam shut...

    DOT-5 from JCWitney

I ran across this while looking for a gallon of DOT-5 silicon brake fluid: AGS SILICONE BRAKE FLUIDS DOT 5 - JCWhitney $69.99 a Gallon, DOT-5 (not 5.1) and free standard shipping. Most of the surplus dealers seem to be out, or their web sites don't list it. Can anyone see anything wrong with...

    mechanicsburg

I was going to post on how helpful Mike was.. took the time to hook up Cliff's trailer before we were out of the truck. I asked where my deuce was and he took the extra time to find it, open the gates to let me look at it (no brakes :( ) but he told me he could offer a jump. I hope he's there...

Why GL Deuces have no Brakes

The brake shoes have springs to push the pistons back to neutral. Any volume loss of fluid would be immediately be adjusted for by the brake shoe spring pulling (well, pushing actually) the pistons together. On any properly adjusted shoe type brake the pistons are always under compression due...

    CCKW AC oil filter decal

Does anyone have a picture, or know of a source that has the AC filter decals for the Military Senior oil filters used on the CCKW? I have the body decal figured out, the lid decal is illegible in all the TMs.

    Single Battery on 24v System

The alternator would simply keep sending current to the battery because its not fully charged to 24V. So it gets hot, boils, or does whatever overcharged batteries do. I could see how you could just use a single battery for 12V circuits (would need a regulator to say a cigarette lighter type...

Early M35 Q: Headlights and gauges

Some trucks have the headlight in the lower holes, with the BO drive light above, others have the lights in the upper holes with the BO driving light below. Any idea why? Is it an early/late thing? Also, I saw an M35 with a very wierd panel. It had the Tach and speed separated by the gas...

    GL-1 Oils, Can not find

Not to be a smart azz, but there since 1995 there have been no certified (by a recognized standards body) GL-1 oil. I could fill a 5 gal pail with cow pee and call it GL-1 oil as there is no standard for it anymore. You are relying on the manufacturer to test and blend it appropriately, using...

New Wisconsin HMV law in effect Oct 1st.

NO YOU DON'T. I'd take flaming pink plates over those OD ones as long as it was registered as a regular vehicle. Sure, PA's Antique plates are a pretty blue, but you have the OPTION to tag your MV as a regular use vehicle. In WI that option was going away fast. They lost HalfTracks, and it...

    GL-1 Oils, Can not find

The dirty little secret is that THERE ARE NO API GL-1 LUBES ANYMORE. GL-1 has been superseded, so API does not test not certify them as GL-1 compliant. The VENDOR is saying it meets GL-1 specs, which don't exist (aka superseded), or oddly, the testing devices do not exist! "API Categories...

    GL botched auctions

As I mentioned in another post the GL is relying on the cost of a lawsuit to be more than you want to spend for an auction win (unless its over the $5k or so price). Nothing in their little 'contract' is ironclad. Fraud, intentional or not, is not legal just because their 'contract' says so...

    WWII GMC Compressor truck

Looks like a good start. Are the air tools still there? ArmyCarsUSA has a complete (COMPLETE) air compressor truck... It would be worth your time to see about a visit (they hold several events a year). Whats it look like under the hood?
