    Gear noise

Here's what the TM9 has to say about it: 63. TRANSMISSION. a. Excessive Noise. (1) Noise which seemingly comes from the transmission may be caused by another assembly such as axle, transfer case, propeller shaft universal joint, or clutch; therefore, before replacing the transmission due to...

    Gear noise

Gear noise can increase as the gears wear, bearing wear, shafts get worn. At best your truck has 20 years on the gearbox (depending on what type of reconditioning it went through while in storage or use). Worse is that you have a gearbox with 60+ years on it, and its simply worn out...

    cckw vin

Some Norwegian things that will need to be looked into and replaced: Panel lights Turn signals Steering wheel Data plates (I know of no acceptable repro data plates for a 42) Battery cut off on passenger side gauges Fire extinguisher bracket There are many more, and pics will help. Read that...

    cckw vin

Cargo body with winch, banjo axles. 83xxx SN puts it about mid 42 production. The SN only conveys axles type, body (cargo, tipper, fuel, water etc) and if it has a winch. You really want to ask about what parts are specific to the mid 42 models. On cckw.org there is a PDF by sinderlin (I...

    The FEVER spreads

Open or closed cab? Chevy doors and a lot of the cab sheet metal will fit on a CCKW (closed cab). Open cab doors are not hard to find, but uncommon. Usual suspects: VoV, Craigslist etc.

    Gear noise

To some gear noise is loud, to other not so much. There are some insulated mounts that may have failed and may be shorting the vibrations to the frame/cab. The TM9 shows them. Personally I notice the gear noise.. much worse in 6x6.... esp when I have the bed off. In the jeep I don't hear it...

    MVPA 2012 Alaska Highway Convoy

Did they release any stats on the other convoy? Like average MPH? Average miles per participant? Driving from PA to CA (done it 3 times) is not bad.. there is civilization along 2/3rd the route. Once up past WA there ain't much of nuttin.

    10 grade motor oil

10W tells you nothing of the oil. It only tells you what the temp range that the oil will perform to its designated specs. You need to look at the API classification to ensure that the oil contains the proper additives for your motor. Military fluids go by a different scheme (MILSPEC...

    MVPA 2012 Alaska Highway Convoy

Who is this supposed to appeal to? You can't even consider it unless you have a couple grand and a few weeks free time. Who lives on the ALCAN highway to 'join in' along the way? Unless there was an LST waiting in AK for the return you have the same slow, grueling drive back. Drive to AK...

Looking for a pic of original oil filter can

Does anyone have an ORIGINAL oil filter on their CCKW? I would like to see what the decals say. Original CCKW oil filters were white with decals. If yours is black its a replacement.. I have plenty of those. Please post or PM me for my email.

    treasure chest

If the crank bracket is welded on the easiest way to tell if its an original issued part is that the originals had two ears bent at 90 deg to keep it seated in the bumper holes. So if you can, look under the bumper for those ears. It'll take a fuel pump if you can send me pics. I need all 4...

    treasure chest

OF COURSE!!! The engine crank to! Did it also have the bumper bracket? Those things need repro'd as there are none. I would like to see the fuel pump as the AC type F fuel pump on the CCKW is unique. Even better if it was the 6 valve late war pump... those are hard to find in good shape...

    "Running when parked"

I see lots of usable parts.... grill, at least one cowl, a hood... sheet metal that is not rusted through can always be repaired. The door on that Chevy looks good (no rust at the bottom?). I could pick those hulls and easy find $500 worth of parts.. bumperettes are $50 each easy, pintals the...

New CCKW at the Ropkey Museum

By taking it off list I simply avoid the problem of the 'nice truck' guys. I already posted about half of what it wrong.... but without frame numbers or more shots I had to hold off on a lot of other things that were done by the French, Danes etc. I have a Danish CCKW TM that really shows a...

    I dont know anything

41s and 42s sure did get sent to ETO/PTO. Operation Torch was started on 8 Nov 1942 and CCKWs indeed made the trip. VERY early CCW and CCKWXs were almost all lend lease till France fell and we had no where to ship them. http://history.amedd.army.mil/booksdocs/wwii/epws/Fig32p359.jpg You...

New CCKW at the Ropkey Museum

YOu didn't even read the thread but come in with inane comments about a topic you have clearly shown you know little about (a 4+ year old pre-restoration photo is on page 4). I gave my obligatory 'nice truck'. I offered CONSTRUCTIVE advice on what is in need of correction to un-foerign-ize the...

New CCKW at the Ropkey Museum

That picture is 4+ years old. I have only had the truck a little over 5 years. Much progress has been made. First I had to find a spare tire carrier, then the proper wooden bed, rebuild the hydrovac (guess how many Series II hydrovac rebuild kits are left on the planet). I have ONE after 3...

New CCKW at the Ropkey Museum

If your skin is so thin that you cannot take constructive comments then that is not my fault. I said it looked in good condition, but there were problems with it. Heck, I have yet to read a post where someone else could explain what those issues are. As I said in the beginning, there are...
