That looks like a home made opening. The rolled lip is very poor, and IIRC the original cover is not canvas.
Can you post a frame SN? Have you found a cab tag? 1609 is the model number... but there *were* field kits to add the hatch in the field.
Thanks for the spell check. I hope you DL'd the Army Motors (sorry about the Feb 43 issue is out of page order.. working on it). I have 5 more issues to post once I get the process fixed. You'd be amazed on how much you can pick up by browsing through them.
As for 'representing a web site'...
The problem is that this truck is in a condition that NO GI ever put it in. I've asked twice now if anyone knew the issues (NOT THE MARKINGS) and no one knows. Yet I could spot it within 10 seconds. I could probably tell more with a frame SN, but that's not been provided.
I am all for...
Problem with the 'rare' or 'uncommon' variants is that unless its complete at the start, the odds of 'restoring' it are bleak. How many light assembly's and accessories have you run across?
Good luck restoring it now that you know what 'it' is.
Its not about the markings. There are some items that are on this truck that would not have been seen in US Army service. If all you see is a MG mount then your 'museum' is in name only.
Its the bed, brush guard, fuel tank and wiper (that I can see) that are in question. A steel body with...
Don't forget the canvas water bucket. Its not 'original WWII' unless it has the water bucket on the pintal hitch.
Whats kinda sad is that I bet you have no idea whats incorrect for this truck. Yet make lame comments. Knowledge is a dangerous thing... in your hands I fear it would be deadly...
Your SN does not decode NF is not listed.
NJ= Cargo less winch
NM= Cargo with winch
NH= dump less winch
NL= Dump with winch
NZ= Airfield crash truck NQ= Bomb service truck
NG= Panel truck

Check for the frame VIN on the drivers side, should be above...
Please take this as nothing more than free internet advice from a person you don't know:
So what if you got it from another museum, if you are going to put the National Symbol on it, and claim it is an example of a WWII 2 1/2 Ton truck the please take the time to get it right. They are not...
Please tell me you are going to fix its errors before you display it. If you are gonna paint it in US Army livery, and say it was used in WWII, then please make it look like a truck that was in WWII.
This is an INTERESTING G-802 book:
The DUKW Its Operation and Uses 1944
Another one (Dutch?)
DUKW-Amfibie test : Free Download & Streaming : Internet Archive
Portrayal Press - Military Vehicle Manual Listings
Operation and maintenance. 534 pages. High quality reprint. #TM9-802...
The blue Hydrovac book only goes so far. Its on the list to scan and OCR.. but since most of the info is in the TM9-1827B (save for some civvy specific info) its not a priority..
I actually lucked out and got a first print, and a second print with corrections and an addendum for the blue...
Opps, sorry, I though we were talking about the new truck :oops:
You might luck out and find a rebuild kit for a T17 Armored car, they have the Second series vacs in them.
I'm trying to get a list of all the MVs taht would have used the Bendix Second Series vacs that the CCKW would use...
I think its the PN I listed above GM-2156874. I might be wrong about being pressed in metal. The second series uses two, one on each side of the piston. The first series only uses one. Are you sure you have a Second Series, and not a First Series with dual pistons?
CCKW/CCKWX chassis number...
The 44 SNL only shows the mid mount for CCKWs. CCKWX's are shown with the rear intake mount. I know they were back there.. but have no idea on by what chassis number... 41 or early 42 I would guess.
Rex Ward is your best hope.
Second Series vacs? I have ONE kit left and it ain't going anywhere. There is really only two major seals.. the leather piston seals, not hard to get them... lots of places still sell leather seals. The other is the relay valve.. but they are simple...
I'd pay close attention to the motor as the PVC nipple on the top of the valve cover is missing. If its been run like that there is a chance that debris could have been sucked in there and in the intake manifold where the other end should have connected. It also looks like you are missing the...
Sorry but not even close.

The Oxford English Dictionary lists Yank, the Army Weekly magazine (1944, 7 Jan. p. 8) as its earliest citation: "The FUBAR Squadron...FUBAR? It means "' ****ed Up Beyond All Recognition.'"
In the 1944 U.S. Army animated short The Three Brothers (directed by...
Hmm.. if its a 'Jimmy'.. and *everyone* knows it.... there should be something written to back that up. I've posted this on several MV only sites (and a few 'commercial only vehicles' and nothing.
Hence my search for the background.
Why so confrontational?
