I changed the ignition and door locks on my 1008. I did not paint the door locks, left them chrome as a sign that they were changed. Less likely someone that knows the common key deal will mess with mine with others to choose from.
The diesel engine wasn't the primary reason for GM trucks having Hydroboost brakes. Every 30 series GM truck I have ever owned had them and except for my CUCV, all the rest were gas engines. My 1977 K30 had Hydroboost with a 400 sb and that was a year before they put their first diesel in a half...
The 205 gets better lubrication with the thinner oil and they really don't need anything super heavy,(read thick). I've torn some old 205's apart that hadn't been serviced regular and the lube had the consistancy of tar. I thought the 1980 truck worked/shifted slick with the 30w.
Well, I'll tell you what GM says for a truck like that, part time 4wd, and 4 wheels on the ground(old owners manual).
1. Transfer case in 2 High
2. Transmission in neutral
3. Maximum speed 35mph
4. Maximum distance 50 miles
Note: For speeds or distances greater than above, both propshafts must...
I've plowed since 1983 with a couple 1/2 ton Chevys carrying an 8 1/2' Western Pro plow and never had that happen. I had a 1976 Jeep Cherokee bust a front axle joint once and it never had a plow on it. Looked like the universal had failed on it. Sometimes crap just happens!
That said, I do...
208 would be tranny fluid.
203 was 30w motor oil.
My 1972 205 case required 80/90 gear oil.
My 1980 205 required 30w motor oil.
My 1988 205 calls for tranny fluid.
Go figure!
There is a "track setup" for the front end when running duals too! it's been posted somewhere in the past. Probably appropiate to have it in this thread too!
It's been a really long time ago for me but, that looks like the M36 periscope infrared elbow assembly. Hey Fred, we did have the M105D on our M60/60A1's.
Well, Since this old thread was revived, I went looking and found this for sale on the internet. I don't figure Oliver would run anything in this that was suspect in power or longevity.
Likely the tallest you will find that fits the stock wheel would be the Interco Super Swamper TSL in the Q78-16 size. They are bias-ply and 35.5 inches tall.
Dana 60 fronts are the best out there. I've never seen an abundance of them around here and the ones you find are not cheap. As some have suggested, get a 14 FF from a 3/4 ton and the matching front. I have a set of axles, Dana 44 front/14 FF rear 3.73 gears from a 79 Suburban out back waiting...
