On the tire issue i would check the alignment first. It doesn't take much error to eat the NDCC tires up. I have an 818 that would go thru front tires in a couple of hundred miles. When i did the alignment the front was off by about a quarter of an inch. It would seem like that little amount...
It is fortunate that everything worked out all right for you. Most tire blowouts are a sidewall failure. And while age and impacts do have an influence, the most prevalent reason is sidewall flex from low air pressure at some tire.
If a tire is operated even for a short tire with low air...
One way to prime the engine without having to crank so much is to open the bleeder on the bottom of the spin on fuel filter. First pump on the primer, then crack open the fuel bleeder to allow the air out then close bleeder, pump some more then crack open the bleeder then pump away. Once you...
I have a friend who has one of them; in fact he just used it to replace a brake line on my K3500. I have used that flaring kit and can’t speak highly enough of it. I will have one shortly. Is the tool expensive, well what is your time and aggravation worth? For me if a tool works and saves me...
I’ll give you a couple of scenarios and what my plans are.
Besides carrying the usual jack, wrenches and what not, I always have a sledge hammer, wedges, ring tool, pry bar and a spare tube.
If I’m pulling a trailer with 11:00 X20s it makes life “easy”.
If I get a single flat on a drive...
It is usually called a trolley valve. It applies the brakes to a trailer.
Some of the uses of the valve are and were.
Prior to 1976 trailers were not required to have automatic spring brakes that double as parking brakes. When coupling to a trailer one would hook up the air lines to the...
The problem sounds like fuel not getting to the filters. Start with the basics; check the fuel line from the first filter back to the tank. There could be a kink, loose fitting, a pin hole in a line, whatever. Then pull the pickup tube from the tank and make that it is there and not cracked or...
The part number that you are looking for is 208087. It can be obtained from TNJ Murray in DE. or Eastern in Pa. Cummins Power Systems also stocks the part. Just be sitting down when you find out the price.
I would start with the basics and check the fuel filter/ water separator. If there is any water in the filter the engine will do some of the things that have going on, ask me how I know. The injector pump requires fuel to run properly and if the filter doesn’t allow fuel to flow the engine will...
The first thing to check is if there is any water in the fuel. Open the vent and the drain on the fuel filter/ water separator and see what it looks like. Don’t be afraid to drain a quart or two out. Then after closing up the drain and vent open the bleeder by the intake tube and re-prime the...
That looks to me to be a torn axle boot. However, an easy check to see if the inner axle seal is leaking is to remove one of the bolts that hold the front shield on. If there is any oil leaking from the seal it collects in the bottom of the steering knuckle and will pour out of the hole.
Brian the water pumps on the NHC 250 do leak when they are getting ready to fail, ask me how I know. If the gasket is leaking, the leak would be at the bottom of the ring that holds the pump in place. To replace the pump on these things is ridiculously easy to do; changing belts is the “hard”...
It sounds to me what you are having is a release problem. The fifth wheels on military tractors doesn’t usually get used enough to wear out. The problem you are experiencing sounds more like a lube problem. Besides lubing the top of the fifth wheel with grease the underside parts also need to be...
That trailer appears to be a pre-1976 trailer. It also appears to have single as apposed to double can brake chambers. Therefore it doesn’t have automatic spring brakes.
It may have automatic brakes similar to the older 127’s, 129’s and the newer 105’s. They work by using the air in the...
If the idle is oscillating after the first start the governor may be sticking. The simplest way to describe it is a plunger with a spring that closes down the fuel by restricting how much will flow. If there is any varnish on the parts in the governor the plunger will stick and the fuel flow...
That 600 gallon fuel tank is part of the beta system. A “complete” fueling rig consists of two 600 gallon tanks secured in the bed of a 5 ton truck with the fueling unit secured behind them. The fueling unit has either a 5 hp gas engine or an electric motor that is powered from the slave...
Heading out in a couple of minutes. I’ll have the usual multicolored one with an XM971 trailer this year. I have some camo support poles, extreme cold sleeping bags (new), and some immersion heaters if anyone is looking.
There is a metal gasket/ seal that the water pump rotates on when adjusting the belt. Sometimes the pump sticks and as you found out needs a gentile tap to get moving. That is why the gasket needs to be coated with anti-seize when installing a new pump or replacing the gasket. Keep an eye out...
The water pump on the Cummins is eccentric in the block. Just loosen the six bolts that are in the ring that hold the pump in the block, and then rotate the pump to loosen the belt. When tightening the bolts after loosening alternate around and do it in steps to minimize the chance of leakage...
