The 800 series takes four batteries however if it is warm out you can get away with two. It also only uses one fuel filter in the fuel filter/ water separator housing and the Wix filter number is 33401. If you have the room to carry everything and the kitchen sink as far as tools, jacks, blocks...
There are two types of systems on the 105 trailer. The early systems use one air line and the later uses two. The first uses the service line to operate a diaphragm that operates the master cylinder. The later type has an emergency side and a service side. The emergency side charges an air tank...
What you experienced is normal for bias ply tires. Most people are have used radials for so long they forgot about the cold spots that develop on bias ply tires when they sit. It usually takes 10 to 20 miles for the 11:00 x 20 NDT’s on my toys to smooth out for me. I just take it easy till they...
From your post I’m not quite sure I understand the problem fully. When you released the clutch it felt like it was in a high gear. Then when you looked into it the output shaft was turning when the clutch was released. So I assume that when the truck is idling there is no power transferring thru...

"There is a governor to limit engine rpm. I have to believe that the engine manufacturer/ designer set this limit. If the engine was not capable, why set it so high? It is not unreasonable to assume that it will be run against the governor.
I have a hard time believing that this...
There have been some very good posts on this topic. While some swear by the multi fuel some swear at it. I personally believe it is quite remarkable for the time it was designed in. First off the multi fuel engine is nothing more than a long stoke diesel engine that can operate on other fuels...
I have driven both the M35A2 and the M54A2. Of the two I prefer the 5 ton over the deuce for several reasons, power steering, larger and more powerful brakes, 14 foot bed as apposed to the 12 foot bed, more powerful engine, and a transfer case that doesn’t seem to have the Sprague “issues” and I...
Most military radios are 24v DC and that generator would be used to run the radios in say a camp, forward base, or even a fire base. The way we used them was to dig a revetment that was surrounded by sand bags and had overhead cover for our generators. Then we would run power to the radios.
It...
An old trick to clean out a manual transmission and or a transfer case is to drain the old fluid out, reinstall the drain plug(s) and refill the transmission or transfer case with ATF. Start the truck and allow it to idle for around 30 minutes. Don’t put any load on it, just leave it idle. ATF...
These measurements are within and inch or so. From the front axle to the intermediate axle on the tractor it is 141”. From the front axle to the rear axle it is 195”.
From the rear axle of the tractor to the front axle on a 129, this also goes for 128’s and 127’s, is 246”.
And the distance from...
"All the adjusters are frozen solid."
Are you referring to the locknuts or the adjusting studs? If it is the locknut I find that they usually require some find of penetrating oil to loosen them. And I cheat; I use a six point impact socket with a ½’ air gun. If it is the stud, I’ve never had...
We use to tear them down check the brakes, clean and repack the bearing and lube the truck one every six months. We also checked the fluids in the transmission, transfer case, and differentials. We did this as soon as possible every time we went thru deep water.
Now as far a how often to do this...
There are a couple of ways to adjust the brakes on this 5 ton. First off the each shoe is adjusted separately by turning the bottom mounting bolt.
Always check the level of the brake fluid in the master cylinder just to make sure it is full.
I always spray some penetrating oil on the lock nuts...
All the wheels bearings, inside and out get packed with grease. And the cork in the keyway everyone seems so to have "problems" with is to keep the gear oil away from the bearings.
Safety wiring bolts can prevent problems down the road. Just look how it is used on the bolts for the CV boots on the front axles of the 5 tons. As far as safety wiring the bolts for the U-joints I don’t see any problems with balance. Just wonder if the wire would be too exposed for cross...
There are several things that one needs to remember about fasteners. First off every fastener has a specific torque value. If a fastener is over tightened it will cause it to stretch and it won’t remain tight. The second is that just as lock washes wear out, lock nuts wear out also. That is why...
There are several types of self-locking bolts. I have some that have “normal” threads for the first few threads then they become “oversize for the remainder of the bolt. They are usually used in aircraft. After they have been used they loose there locking properties and are not to be reused...
