    Check for loose bolts!!!

I thought I would ressurect this thread as it is a GOOD one! I was checking all of the bolts on my M211 and most of them are mix matched. It is not running yet but this would definitely make some nasty vibrations due to the imbalance of nuts/bolts. Definitely adding nuts and bolt torque to the...

    Leaded gas and tranny oil????

I agree with M1010Plowboy, the article "Hydramatic Heaven" was written by Tom at Alfa Heaven in Wisconsin. Tom has rebuilt over a dozen Hydramatics and has owned, operated and maintained a few HUNDRED M211's and M135's since the 1970's. If he recommends 10/30 Hydraulic oil, i'd probably use it...

    My GMC, a little update

Thanks! I think in a few day's I'll start picking and replacing my hydraulic lines one by one. I've already pre-loosened all of them with a line wrench so it would be easy to do later. Plugs or tape will be put on any open ends to keep them clean until my brake system is functional. Since I am...

    My GMC, a little update

I managed to squeeze in a little painting a few days ago. Still about a gallon left to go. You can barely see the front bumper step I made, the tailgate pic shows the tailgate steps I also made. Also, the under hood shot of the 7.3 IDI fuel bowl bracket I made up. I also spent a couple day's...

    My GMC, a little update

Yesterday I made a set of tailgate steps since my old ones were gone. They came out very nice and I made them 7" tall instead of OEM 4". So stepping into the bed is VERY easy from the tailgate. Today I finally made the bracket to secure the powerstroke fuel filter to the firewall. The bracket...

    bad axle vent

I find it interesting that the designers never thought about a chassis vent system. GMC M211's and M135's came factory with them. They used huge 1" steel tubing along the frame rails and it T's off in several places to smaller steel lines which go to things like the fuel tank, transfer case...

Tires, how cracked is too cracked?

I would be very interesting in seeing what you find, it wouldn't take very long to cut one in half to check things out. Is there an inherent disadvantage or advantage to having tube tires? Are they "safer" than tubeless? Oh Stumps where are you....

    My GMC, a little update

Upon reinstalling the original glass into the rear sliding window I broke it in 2. So I cut a new one out of some free tinted plate glass my neighbor had. I wouldn't dare use plate for a windshield or door window, though. For that you really should use safety glass. Anyway, it came out great...

Tires, how cracked is too cracked?

Thanks for posting that Lavarok! 6 of mine fall into the acceptable range, the rest are bound for the garbage. Any idea what a guy can use old rotted military tires for? Flour pots maybe?

Tires, how cracked is too cracked?

Actually, the trucks were designed to be run on both singles and duals. The GMC M135's came from the factory with single 11.00 NDT's which have on average a 2000lb increase in weight capacity over 9.00's. Singled 900's on a Deuce will still yield a 16,000lb combined tire weight rating. So you...

Tires, how cracked is too cracked?

I am willing to bet most of our trucks have some weatherchecking on the tires. We all know you run the best tires on the front axle, that is just common sense on a large manual steering truck. This question pertains more to the duals. As I see it, duals are great because it allows you to run...

    My GMC, a little update

M1010Plowboy's trip down was probably the most fun i've had in my life. Yeah, I don't get out much. Got to see a lot of cool things and i'm proud to say I've made one good friend that will be around for many years to come. I am very humbled to say the least, even days after he has left it...

    Proto-Type Winch Bracket--M135/M211

80% of GMC stone shields are badly damaged or MIA and Alfa no longer has them. I'd say there would be interest if the $ was right.

Contemplating a Bobber! To do or not to do that is the question!

By modifying the 302 radiators existing bracketry and core support (which is also the fan shroud? the radiator can be made to easily fit much closer to the grill, saving you many inches of room. A new fan shroud is easily made: DIY Fan Shroud - Do It Yourself Hot Rod Kustom Website Fortunately...

    My GMC, a little update

Found this on craigslist tonight. 7.3 Powerstroke fuel filter assembly. Complete with fuel restriction sensor, fuel filter heater (for better filtering) and water sensor. $30! Sure beats the $125 I was going to pay for a new Racor unit.

    fuel line upgrade

Most of us already have a flaring tool set for refrigeration lines, etc. I picked up a set of these 45 degree flaring dies or "buttons" from Summit which allows you to make brake lines and double flare fuel lines without having to purchase an entire new "double flaring kit". Summit Racing...

    Take care of your NUTS!

I don't know about the M35's but 80% of my m211's hardware is all of the flex-top nut type. Sure beats the nylon ones! http://www.fastenerindustry.com/Photos/FlexTopLockNut2.jpg

    Take care of your NUTS!

Many of us don't give them much thought. The nuts used on our trucks are Mil-Spec and are known as "Flex Nuts". Many hardware outlets do not carry them. They are also very expensive. So, take care of your nuts. There's probably a few thousand dollars worth of them on your truck. I've probably...

    My GMC, a little update

The floorplate is not finished, needs more carpeting and the bolt holes punched out. Firewall will also be carpeted as will the hard top, cab back and cab sides. The doors may or may not be carpeted, I am leaning toward the later. Dash will be olive drab semi gloss of course. I completely gutted...
