If you can’t get the bucket in far enough for the dipper to stow, you can’t store the backhoe. The transport latch is on the dipper, so if the dipper is not at the correct angle, the backhoe won’t fold down all the way, and certainly won’t latch.
I am not doing any good to criticize the design then not offer alternatives. Here is a thumb designed so you don’t have to unpin the crossbar to store the thumb: https://youtu.be/-E-Yz3bxMbI
With the thumb weighing close to 100 lbs, it is really annoying to have to hold everything up and try to...
No, I haven’t found another I like yet. I don’t have much experience with thumbs besides this one. Getting one that nests tight will be important for the bucket to store. I think the Titan one can be modified to work, but it disappoints me that the pin bent on first use. I did see they now offer...
I added a 32” Titan thumb on my FLU. That was a mistake. Unlike better designed thumbs, it will not fold out of the way without removing the brace bar. In storage, the thumb hits the center tooth and prevents the bucket from folding completely. To add insult to injury, it bent a pin on the first...
How did you fit the Sand trail rims on the rear axle without hitting the parking brake?
I had a set of those on my Mog, but sold the tires off because they are overloaded and unsafe on the FLU419. However I kept the rims to put heavier tires on and was planning on making spacers to fit them...
Have you flushed your silicone brake fluid? Can and do get water in the system that gums it up. The slave cylinder is visible under the driver side of the cab.
Parts manual TM5-2420-224-24P-1 has the axle diagrams starting on page 131. But you are correct, I am not seeing axle rebuild data in -10, -20, or -34. Weird. I believe the 419 axles are a hybrid of parts compared to the 416 axles on account of the higher vehicle weight. You may want to...
I wanted to use my hammer drill to drill a hole in my concrete block foundation. But first I had to figure out an electrical issue that was keeping the tool circuit from working. The last time I tried to use it, it didn’t work when turned on from the tool switch. So I switched the wires to the...
I took the SEE down the road a couple miles to grab a bucketful of compost for the garden. The op manual says not to carry a load in the bucket on the road, but compost is pretty light. Had to prime the fuel system to get it to start, which I never had to do on my other SEE. This one has the...
One other thing to consider: if it has been sitting for a long time, there might be water in the hydraulic tank. This procedure would pull it through the system. Consider loosening a hydraulic drain plug(left side) and make sure water doesn’t drip out.
Welcome to the site. Lots of useful info here, and in the military manuals, which are available for free online. What I am about to share came from there.
The control lever closest to the seat has a float setting which plumbs both sides of the cylinder to tank. On my truck, that circuit had...
Looking through the Military parts manual and realized this info is hiding in plain sight. The CASE part numbers for the seal kits are all listed in the 2420-224-24P Example for the swing cylinder:
*Note* there are a couple of places where the Military manual lists a whole cylinder part...
Yeah, before I would order parts, or a new axle, I would take it apart and see what is wrong. May only be a bearing and some seals. Doesn’t sound like it has chewed a lot of metal yet.
After being smug about the condition of my 3rd Unimog, I finally decided to figure out why the brake lights weren’t working in advance of today’s snow. I found previously undiscovered mouse damage in front of the dash. They nibbles on many wires, but only severed 4 coming from the light...
Our backhoe is newer than the afore mentioned 580B/C/D. The 580D was made from 1980-1984, but our mogs were made in 1986-88. THis overlaps better with the 580E. A lot of that erronious info comes from the CASE MB4/94 mogs which were available with the Model 26 and Model 35 backhoes that were...
