probably just a coinsidense. most diesels default to max fuel when not running so moving the fuel rate nut should do nothing. you may try pedal on the floor when cranking just to see, it won't hurt anything. make sure you have fuel flow with the tank pump running, most likely just fuel draining...
harbor freight used to have a very well built 2000 lb trans jack on sale for $200 at times. if you have a concrete floor to work on,a good investment especially if you can use it for other vehicles.
as you did, there is a big advantage to pulling the top cover. the trans comes out and back in a lot easier without the rod sticking out the back. also filling with oil is simplified, it holds 5 qts. be careful if you use rope, the trans weighs 225 lbs.
the engine applies very little drag, since it has no throttle plate, so there is almost nothing to be gained by downshifting other than clutch wear. the brakes on the other hand are very substancial for this sized truck and will stop you just fine. downshifting from 5 to 4 and 4 to 3 should not...
you are kinda wasting your time if you use the old style gaskets like you have shown. they will fail much sooner and will not tolerate as much boost as the new style. I stopped selling them since so many other people lowered their price, perhaps because of my low price. you can find them several...
with that hose, you are not getting accurate spray results, but close enough. as soon as it fires the pressure in the hose collapses. use an old injector pipe and i think you will see it squeel.
the fuel block is at the bottom = no fuel, at the top = max fuel. there are 2 holes in the plunger the lower one charges it with fuel, when the top one comes out past the block it dumps the pressure so stops the fuel flow. the block must move freely and the pin must be engaged to control fuel...
the alt is very simple, most people want to complicate it because i guess they don't know how it works. there is the large wire that has voltage on it all the time. make sure it is the same voltage you read at the batteries. this will confirm there is no bad connection causing voltage drop...
8 per head? are you sure? well the plugs at the ends of each head are 1" shallow total of 4, and there are 1 1/4" plugs total of 6, i think these are under the rocket arms.
at 2500 rpm full throttle you should have at least 9 psi boost. fuel = power, and heat. filters being clogged is just like not putting your foot into it so lower heat and no power. are your brakes dragging?
