Ian, On my M1010 it didn't cause any external leaks. Just timing issues- debris in the check valve. I am going to change the pump on mine soon. I guess alcohol in fuels - that cause retainers to break down could start to work on external seals. You must have a 1985 or older truck.
I guess I got lucky with my Dodge my ignition lock was in the lock position, but the steering and gearshift was not locked. A freind with a M886 gave me a key for it when I got it home.
My measurements are
M1031 with Turbo 400 trans NP205 transfer case 57 3/8" U joint Center T0 Center
M1008 with Turbo 400 trans NP208 transfer case 54 1/4" U joint Center to center
Mark3395 - I'm thinking if you are talking about the truck you just got it has the turbo 400 transmission and the NP205 transfer case. In this case your NP205 doesn't have the PTO box on the side. That should not make any difference in the rear driveshaft length anyway. The NP208 is aluminum...
Is it a safe bet if a GM style (6.2/6.5) v-8 diesel has a General Engine Products LLC sticker on the valve cover that it would be a 6.5 ?

You are getting air in the system. Possibilities are cracked fuel filter base, or a loose clamp on a fuel line, or a rotten/cracked fuel line. I have seen trucks that almost wouldn't start unless the nose was down. On the level or nose up makes the fuel filter the high point in the system -...
Its the chevy pattern, but I would try to make the diesel work. I would check the return line to the tank. If it was blocked it would cause problems like the return check valve. Is the volume and fuel pressure ok to the injector pump ?
I have a M1010 that has been sitting for a while and the front tire started to come apart at the top where the sun hits it. The rest of the tire looks good and the other three look good. I have seen others that look down right scary and didn't blow. Must have been its time. Glad your windows...
If you have good fuel without any air to the injector pump, I would check the Injector Pump return line check valve. It is located on top of the Injector pump and has a rubber line with a clamp. Remove the rubber hose, unscrew the check valve. Look up inside the check valve. The check ball is...
