This narrows the list down a lot; either your set is throttled clear down to idle and turning at such a slow speed that it isn't tripping the speed switch (which is supposed to prevent the starter from grinding), or the speed switch itself is defective.
I believe the same speed switch ALSO...
In the past, I have used all sorts of stuff for artificial load; below I have listed a few of the things that are commonly available:
500W halogen lights. Only a few $$ from harbor freight or home depot, these work well for smaller generators. 10-20 of them won't break the bank, and they are...
Everybody seems to like to discuss this, and I have run across my fair share of diesel engines that have experienced it. But today, I wrenched on an -005a that had the worst case of wet stacking I've ever seen...
It was a backup generator for a business that faithfully ran it for 1 hour each...
I have several of my generator videos here:
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/auxillary-equipment/77132-mep-operation-testing-video-thread.html
most of them demonstrate the proper way to start up an MEP.
Glad I was able to help!
Normal behavior for the frequency meter is for it to rise partially as the engine is picking up RPM and quickly peg low, and then slowly come up to the actual frequency. Every set I have worked on does this. So, you MIGHT simply have the set adjusted to too low of...
After a few hours of phone calls, google searches, and BB classified browsing, I stumbled across Red River Parts and Equipment; they shipped me everything I needed for under $150; including some extras (seals, spindle nuts, lock washer, etc.). I don't have everything in my hands yet, but the...
Yes and yes; thorough search on ebay, and a google custom search on the classified section.
It isn't that I can't find the parts...its just that I had a $1200 weekend to get my truck back home, and I'm trying to save a few hundred on some good replacement parts for it now that I have it back...
Recent events have created the need for some front axle parts for my A2. I managed to score several races, inner and outer bearings from a surplus Timken house for about $120; I now have enough to replace the bearings that need to be replaced, and a couple of extras.
I also need a couple...
Now that I'm back home and in front of my computer, I can explain what happened:
Let me preface this by saying that i am a relatively experienced wrench-turner and fabricator; I grew up on a farm, spent almost 9 years in the Navy as a nuclear ET, and have built dozens of off-road rigs. I'm...
My shop, my skills, and my tools, always have been a source of assistance for people out near the coast! After this little event, I realize there are a LOT of good people out there who are willing to provide assistance to somebody they don't know...just like me!
What goes around DOES come...
Thanks guys! Got the donor axle apart at beerslayers house; the parts are in excellent shape. Heading back to the truck to put it back together now. Should be back on the road in under an hour...
rockwell axle
Thinking about picking these up; gives me more spare parts to work with. I have a friend here with truck and trailer that can drive me up to get them. Anybody know who this is? It's a 5 hour round trip for me...but probably worth the trip to avoid having to replace borrowed...
Thanks for all the help so far; I wasn't able to track down parts last night, so I got permission to leave the truck overnight in the les schwab parking lot.
Beerslayer may know where there is a donor axle, so I'm hoping for parts this morning.
If that doesn't work out, srodocker I will give...
Of all days to break down and not make it home...today is my wife's birthday!
She'll understand...but I'm burning a favor for sure!
Got the truck apart and sitting on a jackstand in a les schwab parking lot. Just need parts now...spindle and inner and outer bearings.
Thanks guys; I have a guy here helping. He supplied a jack and budd socket. Hub and spindle look ok, but I need to find new bearings. On the hunt now...
Need new inner and outer bearings/races/seal. Since I'm on my phone and nowhere near a computer, anybody have part numbers for them? Or know anybody local who might have spares?
