Looks like I lost a front wheel bearing...anybody local with tools that might be able to lend a hand? Give me a call...I'm in a parking lot in Oregon city. 503-440-5064.

I bought 2 of those about a year ago...I couldn't find a manual for mine either. The gensets were 12 volt civvy versions anyway...very similar to the MEP-002a.
The next place to test would be the circuit breaker itself; remove the plug, find pin A, and do the same test (main switch "on", battleshort in battleshort, main breaker switch to close). If you get 24v there, the breaker itself is bad...if you don't, then it is either a connection at one of...
Uploaded a copy of p 345; highlighted S3 in blue. Highlighted in red the circuit path from S3 to the main breaker that we will be testing. Should help you find it on your schematic...
Next test:
Your main breaker switch is sending the necessary 24v; let's find out if it is getting to the...
I have 395's on mine that I run 8 psi front and 4-5 psi rears; it is amazing in the sand. I was able to climb some dunes at Winchester Bay that some jeeps and toyotas could not. It still isn't a sandrail, but I was amazed at how well it did.
At full highway pressure (even with the 395's) I...
I have bought quite a few H7 sets that had nothing wrong with them...a few more that were intentionally disabled (leads switched on TB's, entire wire harnesses cut, etc.). I think they just classify it as unserviceable to legally move it into DRMO and get new equipment.
It is repairable

But, I wouldn't worry about that until you have the set up and running. Once you're there you can determine what your actual problems are.
Keith_J already covered the flashing issue; but wanted to add a x2 to that. Losing residual magnetism is common in smaller generator sets so the general advice given to you by your friend is good advice...but it doesn't apply to your -002a. The field flash occurs every time you start the...
That's what I used to do too (before I bought a load bank); I just waited until a load of laundry was ready to go into the dryer and then ran it on the generator. With this I could hold it at 80% or better load for an hour or two. Of course, this only works on -002 and -003's (I can't fully...
Based on what you posted, it sounds like you're reading the tech manual and not just working by the seat of your pants!
IIRC, the shim thickness only adjusts backlash in the IP gear, but the timing is adjusted by changing button thickness inside of the IP. What method did you use for...
Here is my take on this based on a little bit of experience:
You have a couple of things to think about/questions to ask:
1. Are the running amps of the motor within the capacity of the generator? Assuming your transformer is 95% efficient or better, the answer is yes. You'll be running at...
OK; I just got done troubleshooting an -004a with a main breaker that would not close so I'm now VERY familiar with the circuit! A concrete construction company was using the set to power their site and the main breaker would intermittently open during operation and then not close again...
You need to do both; the buss bar cut/jumper mod in the video wire the 12 leads from the generator in zigzag configuration.
The lead swaps in post 40 re-wire the voltage regulator/exciter, thermal watt converter, and many of the control box components to work properly with the zigzag mod.
If...
x2 what Keith_J said
I have seen the shutoff solenoid mounting screws back off on several occasions; I put red loctite on all of the ones I work on.
The plunger on the solenoid has an adjustable pushrod; I have also seen those back off and not completely shut down the set.
