You can most certainly pickup a spring loaded light switch to fit in the door jam. That is a good idea, I may do it myself. I contemplated the 12v conversion too, but by the time you change out all your gauges, headlights, bulbs etc it makes it so much cheaper/easier to stay with 24v. Which in...

I am glad to hear somebody else out there is actively restoring a GMC. Gives me hope and strength to continue on. Like you, I pay attention to detail. It's the small stuff that matters to me, and when it's all done it's all the small stuff that really stands out. Decals, white paint on your...

    Which starter

I love the M1028's, sweet looking rig you have there. Probably find one myself when I get my first CUCV. This engine has not been test run in 2 years. I think the IP still has fuel in it but I am sure most of the system is full of air. I was told to squirt some marvel oil into each cylinder to...

    Which starter

I am putting a 6.2 HMMWV motor into my GMC. I am ready to fire this thing up, I just need a starter. I can't find any information on replacement HMMWV starters other than replacement HMMWV starters which are insanely expensive. Will a 24V gear reduction starter off a CUCV work on the HMMWV...

GMC 211 engine and auto trans boost and smooth

The M211 borrows heavily from the CCKW in looks and in some ways, mechanically as well. Just remember, GMC stands for Generate More Cash.

Does your M135 bed have a tailgate? The beds themselves are not easy to find anymore, nevermind the proper tailgates.

Do you have any pics of your hard top Jack? Looks custom made.

A straight pipped 302, bet that sounds nice. :)

    My GMC, a little update

I made my motor plates today, they mount onto the sides of the block using the 3 original motor mount bolt holes on the 6.2's. I think 3/16 plate will be good. It cuts easy and welds nicely. 1/4 I think would be overkill.

GMC 211 engine and auto trans boost and smooth

As Rosco said, they are slow vehicles. About the only thing you can do is know how to work the pedal and learn the shifts. The mind set back then was small engines and lots of gears, it got the job done just fine but they are anemic by today's "standards". If you want a little more top end...

    My GMC, a little update

Oh my god! Henderson, you HAVE to give me more details on your crew cab M135!!!!! It will be the best thing since sliced bread! You have me giddy as a schoolgirl wanting more info. I'll bet it will be very well done, too! I've only seen 1 M211 crew cab and it was done horrrrrribly...

    Difference in gauges/senders. Quite note:

Difference in gauges/senders. Quick note: Some have asked if you can use the older M series gauges (metal connectors) on the newer M series vehicles (rubber connectors), and visa versa. The answer is YES, but only for the oil senders and oil gauges. There is no difference between the early...

    My GMC, a little update

Wow! I was guestimating the 302 put out atleast 320 ft lbs. That is surprising, you would be correct in your assumption of increased performance with the 6.2. That makes me wonder if the 455 that used to be in the truck was a little too much muscle for the rest of the driveline. Over at the...

    My GMC, a little update

Thanks for the PM Oldfart, and your input on here. Your CUCV story was especially inspirational. A lot of people have been saying it will be a real dog with a 6.2. They forget that a vehicle designed with pure WWII technology, 1920 tire design and a single circuit braking system was designed...

    6.2 crank rotation

I have no idea what materials cost nor what my local shop charges for cutting steel plates to size. I like the weld in mounts in that last link you provided, I will keep them in mind. Looks like the only thing i'd have to shorten would be the plates that you weld onto the frame. Pretty effortless!
