A few more pics this evening. I decided to keep the generator and regulator. I will have to redo the mount since it was on the 455. Easy enough though, and it saves me $100 which helps me get on the road quicker. I cracked it open this evening, easier to open than a can of beans. It needs new...
If anyone would like to keep up on my project, you can find it here:

I am faced with 2 options for shifting the Th400 (out of a gasser). Vacuum or mechanical. I think I am going to go the vacuum route, I just need a...
Actually I went outside and took some measurements. The 6.2 sits particularly low in this truck, the holes on the block for the mounts are only about an inch higher than my frame rails. So they would not work, and your asking price is about what I expected. Not bad, though. The crates are worth...
I figured if the compressor belt interferes and flex pipe won't solve the issue, I could form some thin metal hanger that would "push" the hose in a direction that will provide some clearance. Pictures would be appreciated, to get an idea. Thank you!
Sounds like a nice truck, I would like to see the GMC's go up in value someday. My updates will be posted in this thread from now on. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/early-deuce/73907-my-gmc-little-update.html
I think the front mounts off a military can will work with very little cutting/welding. It sure would save me some time. I take all the help I can get when it's 116 outside.
PM SENT.
Would anyone have close up pictures of the military 6.2 crates? Specifically the front mounts that secure the motor. I'll be fabbing up my motor mounts to look just like them. Better yet, if I could find a crate to steal the mounts from, they would fit my frame with little work.
Yeah, they worked well for the HMMWV and my 6.17 gears should take a lot of load off the transmission and engine, so as not to overwork them for this large application. I will be installing an oil cooler like the HMMWV as well as running the biggest trans cooler I can find.
I am going to make...
I had heard all this talk about clockwise this, counterclockwise that, reverse rotation water pumps, V belt rotation, serpentine rotation, etc. Nobody was saying which view they were looking at the motor from though. It finally dawned on me last night that the 6.2 does indeed have standard...
Wow! Thanks for the replies. I will definitely go rubber then. It won't be a super fast truck. It was never designed to be. The 6.2 will produce the same amount of power as the original 302, with a little more HP while delivering better fuel economy. Besides, the joy in owning these is to slow...
I am putting this new HMMWV motor into my GMC soon. I am using the Th400 that is already fitted to the truck and has been used in the truck. The transmission is setup for a rubber mount. For the motor, I really want to make some solid mounts. They are so easy, and I could be done in under a...
I was able to fiddle around with the GMC air compressor this evening, how I will fit it onto the 6.2. I'm coming up with some pretty slick ideas, it shouldn't be that difficult to do. My biggest concern was with the unique radiator hose inlet on the top of the 6.2 motors. I think it will be...
Thanks, NDT. I am going to pickup a mechanical modulator cable to shift the Th400, just like the HMMWV's. It's already setup for it and it will be cheaper/simpler than going with a vacuum setup like the CUCV's.
The man I got the motor from actually owns the business that contracted with the...
Picture #3 is showing the bracket/linkage bolted to the intake valley. I THINK this is what pulled on the cable that shifted the 3l80's in the HMMWV's. I have a Th400 going on the motor, so I was hoping a mechanical modulator from a HMMWV will fit onto my Th400.
Okay, so the filter is after the lift pump. Thank you! It is motor, thanks for the tip on the return lines. I'll put shorter ones on.
Picture 1- What is this bracket for?
Picture 2-I think I am missing my throttle return spring?
Picture 3-I believe this is for the transmission shifter modulator?
There's a large steel fuel line that comes off the fuel pump, under the intake and stops at the rear of the left valve cover. It has the red plug in it to keep junk out during shipping. I don't know what this line hooks up to? Does it hook into rubber line coming off the injector pump inlet? Is...
