I spent 3.5 hours today in the 115 heat dragging this motor on my hoist through the soft dirt. I was determined to get it moved from the back of the truck, to the front. I can't believe I did it either, moved it inch by inch. Literally, but I did it!!!!! Before the sun went down I snapped up...
Thanks! That's what i'll probably end up doing again. I used some half inch plywood and even that worked beautifully to get the motor pulled. I'll get the pics in a few minutes, need new batteries for the camera. I did get everything cleaned up though, got more painting done and organized a lot...
My motor arrived today! Got it sitting ontop of the engine hoist legs. Took a lot of redneck ingenuity to get it into the backyard, ended up having to use a hand winch attatched to the hoist and truck bumper to pull the hoist through the dirt. Those tiny little iron wheels don't like dirt. :lol...
Aside from some embarrassment the Tcase is probably just fine if there was enough residual oil on the meshing gears to lube them for a quick trip down the road. Make sure you fill up with a yellow metal safe gear oil. :D
I am beginning to believe the rumor that the "CARC" govt contractors are using to repaint the current MV's is nothing more than relabeled BEHR paint. I can swear on the good book that this stuff is harder to remove any other paint i've ever worked with. Darn durable as well, when properly cured...
If you read a post I made in the paint section a few months back I had the exact same issue. It had rained cats and dogs that day, and the paint I had applied didn't have enough dry time. I noticed the bubbles like you are describing. I took the liberty of scraping the paint off while it was...
Hmm, i'll have to call the local shop monday. Otherwise i'll get one of the ones I found on ebay for $60. Can't go wrong for $60. I need to order up a starter first though. Then it will be a complete motor. For some reason the HMMWV motors had the starters removed, they probably swapped them...
I am putting a 6.2 HMMWV motor in my GMC in a few weeks. Just waiting for it to arrive. The truck is similar to the M35 series in that it uses an air compressor (big 2 cylinder) to make air power for the AIR PAK. I already fabbed up a mount to fit the same compressor to the 455 olds that used to...
NAPA is awful spendy. You mentioned agricultural, I ran across this earlier. Seems a lot of John Deer stuff is 24V. Would this bolt on without any troubles? Worse comes to worst I can just pickup any alternator and I suppose I could fab up a simple bracket. But if I can find a bolt on why the...
Is there is a 24V alternator that will bolt right onto the 6.2 motor, on the right head? This is not a CUCV, the 6.2 motor is going in my GMC which is 100% 24V from the headlights, gauges, sending units and everything else inbetween. I have a large converter to keep the 6.2 glowplugs 12v of...
This question is for the 24V, 25 AMP generators used on the M37 and other early M series vehicles. What would cause the generator to only make power in one direction, and zero power in the other? Mine puts out 36 volts (measured without regulator, duh) running counter clockwise as viewed from...
Jack is a good guy, affectionately refers to me as the "jimmy deuce guy" in Yuma. He loved the old GMC's, he has over 25 of them but used to have hundreds when they were popular.
I appreciate the information, Bob! I was going to run the biggest cooler I can get my hands on. I may do the external filter as well, it would really simplify things. For tires, I will be putting a few new 9.00's on. I don't have the $1100 to do a full 11.00 swap, but that is more than like what...
You'll get over it.
Nothing to be embarrassed about really. Working with bondo is an art that not everybody can learn. It can be a real life saver if you use it properly. The important thing is you use it where needed and not to go overboard with the perfections. I love the stuff, has...
Your best is to do it by hand with a tiny brush and a small bottle of hobby/model acrylic paint. Sit down, crack a bud and start painting. I am doing mine in black so they stick out just a little bit over the dark OD. Matter of fact, i'll probably do that this evening.
