    16.00 XZL's on an M818

Here is a close up of my rear tire clearance.

    16.00 XZL's on an M818

5' for the height of my 5th wheel. Sure wasn't 3" of clearance between the rear tires though. I used a dead blow hammer to smack the tire while airing it up to help the bead to set easier and faster.

    Installed a 2in Ball

Looks good Josh! And yeah, that front tire is getting pretty worn!

    Lighting upgrades

Yeah, like mentioned above, they work great IF they are made to work within their designed parameters. Think about it, you are putting out how much light from how SMALL of a source? It may be a very low wattage, but with that small of a form factor, the heat has to go somewhere. Seems that most...

Spacer block size for Bobbed Deuce

I copied ^^^ for lift blocks. No problems yet. I have the 3/4" U bolts, but used the lower brackets from the dog bone. Everything bolts up, and if I ever get the front shock setup, it will bolt in place of the current lower bracket.

    Highway speed of 5ton

Oh, and when the tire manufacturer states the Max Speed, they are not referring to a speed rating like mentioned above. But getting the info on how they rate tires like that is kind of tough. Medium and heavy truck tires are not speed rated like passenger tires.

    Highway speed of 5ton

So, for my 16.00R20 tires, rated at 14,540 lbs and 115 psi, they are rated at a MAX speed of 55 mph. This is FAR different from how we are typically driving these. My truck weighs around 20k. Which means about 5,000 lbs on each front tire, and 2,500 lbs on each rear tire. And on my last trip...

    Highway speed of 5ton

The test consists of a tire mounted in a fixture at the rated inflation pressure and applied to a wheel at the equivalent of the rated load in a room at 77F. To pass the test (and receive the rating) the tire must sustain the speed without failure for 10 minutes. There is a warmup procedure that...

    Highway speed of 5ton

Basically a simple part that sets the fuel pressure the pump puts out (which can be fine tuned with shims). It basically nothing more then a plug with a hole in it. You really should have an EGT gauge setup before messing with this though.

    Highway speed of 5ton

Oh, I do agree with EMR though, these are NOT OTR trucks! There is no real comfort, safety, features, etc.

    Highway speed of 5ton

Sheesh, IF, and I mean IF the truck is in good condition, and maintained well, it will cruise at 65 mph without too much troubles with the 16.00r20 super singles. I maxed out at 71 mph, but that was downhill with no real power behind it. This is my 818 btw. Drove it to WA for the convoy, empty...

    Starter stuck on

I was thinking about doing exactly that!

    Starter stuck on

It ended up being the small lead that goes between the starter and solenoid had been rubbing and wore a hole through the cover and was shorting out on the power and causing the starter to stay on. I pulled the end of the solenoid off anyways to check the condition. It ended up being in fairly...

    Starter stuck on

Thanks guys. If I get some time today I will start by pulling the solenoid off and see how that looks. I just didn't want it to happen again if there was some other 'known problems'. But after searching on here, I couldn't really find much in this section about the starters being stuck ON...

    Starter stuck on

Moved the 818 around yesterday. Second time I started it, I heard an odd noise, but it wasn't too loud, so I thought it was the tach cable making some noise (cable doesn't engage correctly). But when I turned the motor off, the starter kept cranking! I flipped the switches a few times with no...

    Air-O-Matic Issue

Ah, so that was the offending part that kept leaking! Glad you found it. And seeing as the answer is as easy as bypassing it, it is a cheap fix that should keep you on the road more. Hmm, I BET that is the thing that was making a slight 'hissing' noise each time after you stopped while on the...

Priming a dry Cummins PT IP

Trust me, a few pounds of air pressure, and you will find the leaks. Very easy and very fast. I pull one of the small lines that go into the tank at the front and back. I put the air pressure into the fuel tank right there, and check for leaks. There will be a vent for the air up near the...

    HEMTT one piece rims

They look like this? If so, they are HEMTT rims, and work great on the 5 ton trucks.

    Lift Block Dimensions

Even though I have some good lift block (the older SOLID ones), that would have worked well. I still made my own. My reasoning is that I can weld my home made lift block to the axle. I also have tabs that extend down on the front and back of the axle (which is where I will weld them on). So they...

Priming a dry Cummins PT IP

A small amount of air pressure to one tank at a time will find the leak(s), fast!
