Another One Joins The Fleet M211

Wow, 44k pounds? I had heard the old GMC's were built beefier than the M35's but dang! I have heard of guys loading up to 22,000 in gravel, etc in their GMC's with no problems. I don't see why they were classified as 2 1/2 Ton trucks.

    M211 pricing

Well I took the heads off yesterday to desludge them and do a valve job because they looked pretty gunky. Then I found that cylinders 3 and 4 have some pretty severe pitting that is constant throughout the bores which would explain the smoky exhaust. So I went ahead and finished tearing the...

    Photos Of XM211 Excavator

Freakin AWESOME! I can't believe that's a true blue Military job too. I had no idea they made an excavator model. I will be on the lookout for the other excavator, I bet it's hiding in the Southwest somewhere. Funny that the old post Korean war tires have a different tread pattern...

    M211 - Too Slow

I am the type of person who would rather properly repair something than go with a quick fix, but have you considered trying that "Restore Engine Lubricant" in your truck? A lot of the older mechanics I have talked to swear by the stuff. I wonder how much pep it would bring back to your old 302?

Pics of Trip to Jack's Gov Surplus

I don't know where some people got the idea that Jack does not deal in parts. He is most certainly glad to help people out with parts when he can. But he will not part out a perfectly good complete vehicle. Don't know anybody that would. He currently has a couple dozen M211 parts trucks that...

    M211 - Too Slow

That is the 3rd 302 I have seen lately with a bent or broken pushrod. I would agree, most of these engines are probably over 40 and some even closer to 60 years of age. Still though, darn tough considering what they had to push. I still like my 455 though.

    XM211 Excavator Digging

Did you get it uploaded yet? Not a lot of vids on the old GMC's!

    M211 - Too Slow

Actually Old Fart, I closed the ad on my truck earlier today. I was frustrated with the truck so I put it up for sale. After a cool off period I want to keep it again. Best thing a man can do is walk away when the frustration sets in.

    Diameter of axle boot

Hey Gimpo, your PM box is full! I will take you up on the boot offer. Clear some space in your thingy and I'll PM you my info.

    Diameter of axle boot

Can anyone here take a measurement of their steering knuckle boots? Specifically where it clamps onto the knuckle. I would like to see if the M35A2 boots will fit onto the earlier GMC knuckles which are quite similar, but use a more complicated setup of seals and garter springs to keep things...

    M211 pricing

Actually I already fabricated the compressor onto the engine. It came out very nice and all I need is the coolant and oil lines. NAPA has them, I may just need some thread adapters. I am very interested in what you are thinking on the oil lines and oil supply. I have seen this done on other...

    M211 pricing

Got the motor and transmission pulled. Next are new brass freeze plugs, engine/tranny cleanup and repaint and I'll be beefing up the motor mount brackets. Then I just need to finish my brakes, some new rubber and fab some exhaust up and it will be done.

Gear oil for our GMC's. Yellow metal safe?

That's what i'll be going with as well, I don't plan to be driving the trucks thousands of miles a year anyway so GL1 should be fine. Does it come in 140W?

    Clearing up axle seal confusion

I still have to do the left steering knuckle, won't be doing that until I have a camera to take pictures of the process. I will also be switching to a 140w GO to furthermore decrease the chances of GO getting into the universal joints. It also gets pretty hot here so thicker oils are used more...

Gear oil for our GMC's. Yellow metal safe?

Thanks Paul. So as long as the container is marked MT1 it does not matter if it's GL1 or GL5. Because I know there are a lot of GL5 lubes that are not yellow metal safe. Here are some good threads on the subject. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/41187-wwhat-does-term-yellow-metal-mean.html...

Gear oil for our GMC's. Yellow metal safe?

I used to think gear oil was gear oil until I did some reading of my own. It seems that a lot of todays gear oils use detergents that actually eat up the metal parts inside certain gear boxes. The metals at risk being "yellow metals" that many old vehicle gear components contain. Even the M35...

    Can anyone decipher this?

Did you make sure your information was correct? NSN, registration, VIN, etc.? Atleast you still know more about your trucks history than I do about mine. And yours is 100% original. Want to trade? Carnac actually helped me decipher the above a little better. Mine was with the 363rd...
