I've been disappointed with the light output from the stock backup lights on my 996 for a while and decided to do something about it. I found some heavy cast aluminum LED lights on Ebay that were selling for $7.00! A price that was pretty hard to turn down for a 24v LED. I mounted it on a 2 x...
When the snorkle is installed there's a small tube that runs up the side of it and connects near the top. That's the vent for the hubs, diffs, and power train. The tank vent is tucked in behind the overflow tank and terminates in what looks like a standard inline fuel filter. This might help:
Vent lines are supposed to vent the air in the system, not hold it captive until you release it. You should be able to blow thru them into the air cleaner.
When I first got my truck I had a rust pinhole in the heater valve that would let out enough coolant that I could smell it but it wasn't dripping. It eventually blew out and was easy to find at that point.
There are only 2 circuit breakers in a basic M998 truck, One for RUN power and one for the Heater circuit. The ambulances have an NBC fusebos that lives on the bulkhead behind the passengers head.
The starter solenoids they use in the PCBs are intermittant duty and that's all they need to be since the timing circuitry only powers the glow plugs up for about 10 seconds each cycle.
They're the same truck at a basic level but you need to understand where they differ. The frame and running gear are the same for the most part, the sheet metal on the body is similar but the interior and electricals are completely different. You can visit the H1 sites like the hummer knowledge...
Curtisje, The HMMWV has inboard brakes so even with a broken half shaft BTM works. It is a technique that needs to be mastered and if you've never done it trying to learn it with a broken truck is certainly going to be more difficult. Put the TC in neutral with the front end jacked up and...
Make sure your connections in the headlight bucket are correct. 91 is the ground feed to the light and you don't want either the 17 or 18 wires from the LED connected to it.
The spring contact on the top side of the steering column on mine was broken when I got it. This is the contact that grounds the column to the rest of the vehicle. Without it the horn won't work. It's a simple 2 screw and 1 wire repair.
Here's the info on this part:
Putting in large rivnuts doesn't require that special tool unless your going to do a lot of them. Just use a 1/2-13 bolt and a couple of nuts to set the rivnut.
BTW, I did the flasher replacement.
I run LEDs all around, Truck-Lite headlights and BO driving light, LEDs in every position including the instruments and turn signal indicator with no problems. The only place I don't have LEDs is the BO taillights.
Centramatics and Balance Masters dynamically balance the wheels as you go down the road eliminating the need to have the tires balanced as they wear. I've run Balance Masters for almost 20 years and have never had tires balanced at a shop. All they are is a disc that mounts between the wheel...
I'm trying to find someone scrapping out either an M996 or M997 ambulance that would be willing to cut out the small access door on the lower left panel. Is anyone aware of one? Thank you.
Dash 10 manual, I don't need no stinking dash 10 manual! That video is a great example of a clueless new HMMWV owner. These trucks aren't cheap. Wouldn't you like to know somethimg about it before laying out money for one? They aren't your average Hertz rental car.
