My tire guy told me that the steel cable in the bead of the 9 and 11.00 r20s is too stiff to get them on a one piece rim without damaging the bead. Could be wrong, I don't know. I'm not a tire guy, that's just what I was told.
I've seen a lot of kipper horizontal tank compressors sell out of the GL yard on Polk. Keep your eyes open and I'll grab it for you if you find the right one.
Pretty sure Gimp got the blue wrench roll you have pictured there at the rally, it was new but had no wrenches in it.
I'm surprised you...
Do whatever you have to do to get the money together for it. You won't regret it!!! And once you have it it ain't going anywhere, plus you get much better fuel economy with it.
Bring two new batteries with you and install them there, then you can drive it on and off the trailer untethered. That is likely the only reason it won't run off the slave cable, the batteries are just that bad, have cells shorted, or are completely missing.
And I know you aren't made of money, but for a trip that long you should really really look into the Waterloo overdrive kit. Best money you can spend on one of these trucks if you drive any distance. It's almost like having a whole new truck.
Just be sure to use some kind of insulator under the auxiliary tank if you get one, just some conveyor mat or wood or something. I just bolted mine down to the metal floor in the bed, and now a year or so later I have a leaking auxiliary tank to fix. An ounce of prevention...
No, they are not serviceable. When they go bad you just replace them with greasable ones. You know how to change these right?
Wait, there is a grease fitting on one of those I just saw. So they are servicable, but they are held in with c- clips on the inside face of the ears. They can be hard...
You know you have to tell us the other sad experience now right?
Pull your horn button and clean up the crap in there and put it back together. Also, make sure the spring isn't broken or bent, or overly corroded.
Oh I thought there were only 20. Where did I get that from? Maybe I need to go back and re-read... you never know, the museum may offer you substantially more than you have in the truck, then again they may not. Still a really cool rig, even more so because it can still be worked and hold its own.
Old shells are just like old explosives and the like. They may still work, but they are way more dangerous. 40- 50 years in proper storage is pushing it as things start to degrade such as powder and primers regardless of storage conditions. 99% says they were shooting hand loaded rounds and...
I know Ithat isn't my place to say, because you bought it and I didnt, but your truck really does belong in the Mack museum. I'm sure the one that went to the oil fields is already destroyed, and who knows where the other 18 are.
Looking good man. Hope the bed liner turned out ok. I wasn't really happy with how it was laying down when I was shooting it. Seemed like I got a bad batch or something but it certainly didn't come out the way the floor in my cab did. The floor in yours looks great though.
And now that mine is...
This is why I have a 100 gallon auxiliary tank in the bed with a transfer pump. Sure, I have to stop to fuel up, but it was a lot easier install for a lazy person. Plus I want to keep my spare tire and pioneer tool rack in the factory location.
I found my new motor leaking oil in the same place when I got home from the GA rally. Same place my old one was leaking too. I need to get, or make a head nut wrench so I can retorque the heads. Otherwise the motor is still leak free.
The way that impeller feels is fine. They should feel that way. Since you cleaned the screens and all out, plug it in and see if it runs now. Sometimes the crud just jams them up.
