I have to wonder if any of them survived. I've never seen anything on here about someone having one. And I can imagine it being an electrical nightmare after 50 years of neglect.
The ConDeco units, that is.
And you can turn your fuel back up a bit, just be careful. At least get a $30 boost gauge from a parts house and plumb it in. If you have the whistler, tune fuel to max around 10-12 psi of boost. If you have the D turbo you can go up to 15-18 psi. Just don't run it max boost up long grades.
Crank the truck and let it idle, then adjust the idle up to 800-850 rpm. That should give it the extra fuel it needs to crank easily. If not, get your injectors serviced.
Also, single circuit brakes are bad juju on a tanker. I have parts of a vfd deuce tanker here that lost brakes and went into a lake or river. Every tooth in that transmission was stripped off from the driver trying to downshift and stop it. You would do well to install the braided stainless...
You could try and fit an aftermarket driveline brake. You need something that locks more positively than the old two shoe and drum system. The 939 series trucks use a similar system, but in conjunction with the wheel end brakes ( because they have full air brakes) and those suckers hold solid...
Pull the 1" hex fitting off the forward facing surface of your boost pump and see how much trash comes out. You'd be surprised how much gets around the primary and gets caught up in the boost pump.
Right, but you still pull fuel around it at the top, and through the small space between the threaded shaft and the cup washer. And there isn't a good way to seal the top surface because the top metal lip of the filter is perforated, has a bunch of holes in it for some reason.
Yeah but you can't mount NDTs on a one piece rim. He could go with radials though. I was under the impression he wanted to try and run the original big NDTs. I know he would have to find new ones.
I don't think any custom wheel makers would take on the liability of manufacturing any kind of split ring rim these days. All it would take is for one person to get maimed or killed and they would sure enough be out of business.
If anyone would have some originals, it would be Jack down in...
A HALF INCH??? Does it smoke like a freight train at idle? Do you have a pyrometer installed? That sounds WAY high on the fuel setting, unless I'm not thinking of the right screw, and I'm pretty sure I am.
Right. Besides, the lowest micron rating you can get for the canisters is a 6 micron, and it only takes a 5 micron particle to damage the pump. Ambac originally called for a 3 micron filter to protect these pumps, so of course the military settled for 10 micron finals... that's fine if you have...
James, it is the cans. Having spring loaded filters and no kind of sealing element between the contact surfaces is just plain stupid. I've put a lot of miles on my truck and I can say for a fact that a lot of crud gets past them. I've gone over to spin on filters now, with a 10 micron primary, 5...
That's neat rusty I like it. No ammo can big enough to fit my transfer pump into though. Mine is a 1.5" pump, and my 3 micron filter is bigger than a .50 Cal can. Lol
Exactly. Moving that truck out of your driveway is taking not only your life, but others lives into your hands and it can only end badly. That's like removing all but one lug nut from each wheel and then getting on the highway.
