XM816 swap to Michelin 53 Super singles

No modifications need to be made to the axle. You will need to change out the rear lug nuts to ones like you have on the front. They're available at Napa and similar places.

Has anyone piped the exhaust on an 802 831 or 803 into a water drum?

A muffler off a large truck will probably not add much back pressure and will quiet the exhaust. Since much of the noise is not from the exhaust, a well ventilated enclosure may be your solution.

M 998 Regulator and Overall advice

I'd upgrade to the 200 amp alternator and call it done. My understanding is that the 60 amp units frequently fail.

    Tire mileage

My opinion, not that you asked for it- run with what you have . You have plenty of spares. Change out to 395's on mrap rims with spacers at some point in the future. G177s look good on a deuce. The clearance is just barely not enough and they don't hit all the time, just intermittently...

Official 2020 Georgia Military Vehicle Rally buy-sell-trade thread

I have one high back hmmwv seat, attached to a battery box cover (passenger side obviously). It's in KS. I don't plan to attend the GA rally, but I suspect Dave will so perhaps we could hitch a ride with him.

    Tire mileage

G177s dualled on the back of a deuce will rub slightly on a trunnion cap bolt head.

Converting a regular bed to drop side

$500-$1000 is a fair price for a 1078 or 1082 bed. Deuce dropside bed may be a bit more, due to scarcity. 14' 5ton dropside bed should be around $1k. These are easy to shorten , but if the goal is 12' I'd just grab one of the 12' beds. Using an existing LMTV (1078/1082) bed makes you...

Converting a regular bed to drop side

    I'd source a bed off an M1078 or M1082.

    Newbie Questions

Not necessarily. Motors frequently sat decades in a can prior to use. I once saw a 1986 M925A1 5ton truck with a NOS 1971 production NH250 in it.

    6.2 or 6.5 - What's really better?

6.2 to GM 6.5 is probably not worth the effort. You'd probably never notice a difference. 6.2 to GEP 6.5 is an upgrade, but why bother if your 6.2 is running ok? But at that price, grab it and have it on hand in case your 6.2 takes a dump some day.

    LED Headlight Recommendation(s)

Trucklite has had problems with bad soldering inaccessible behind heavy plastic potting. JW Speaker is the clear choice. The military ones with the correct connectors take some searching to find. If you're ok with splicing, the civvy ones are readily available, if expensive. 0546351 is the...

New to 5 ton what is the model of this one

The transfer case will break. Used takeouts are approaching $1k and new in the can units are $4k. It is well worth the trouble to prevent this.
