Don't need to govern it down at all. The LDS should be governed at 28-2900 or maybe 3200 even under no load. Can't remember specifically, but it is up there in the scary zone.
Pull the top cover and have a look. That's the only way to tell. Whatever it is should be obvious.

Check and see if your u-joint has cap seals or not. Some do not have seals for the caps and they DO still need a grease bath. If you install the outer seal on the front axle you will kick yourself for it later. It is a waste of a good seal where it isn't needed, and just adds more to deal with...
Yeah your dipstick is in the right spot already. It shouldn't hit anything going in. There isn't anything there to hit unless the oil pan wasn't flipped or the pickup tubes are somehow improperly installed. The engine wouldn't fit if the oil pan wasn't flipped so, I don't know what to tell you...
The filters are made of fiberglass. They can be cleaned with brake cleaner like everyone knows already, or you can drop them in an ultrasonic cleaner with a degreaser solution in it for a few minutes and it comes out just like new.
Do the tracks really wear that quickly on these things? There are a couple near me that have been sitting in the woods for 20 - 30 years that I can probably have if I just get them off the property, but I can't afford to own one if I can't afford to keep tracks on it.
