Have you seen the new low temperature solder sleeves that have a solder ring inside adhesive lined heatshrink? When you hit them with a heat gun the solder melts and joins the wires and the heatshrink melts down and creates a watertight seal. The best of both worlds. I found it on Everybody...
This can be verified by applying and removing 90 psi air pressure to the clutch via the line the runs from the Cadillac valve to the feedthru on the fan shroud
The Army has announced the purchase of new M997A3 ambulances. This new contract runs thru 2024. Here's the article:

If you ever get to the point where you need 600:4 ohm transformers I have a bunch of them that I pulled out of the amplified speaker conversions I do for the PRC-25/77 radios.
When the USMC mounted the Helmet hardtops on their trucks they had that small door to accommodate the fording exhausts they all had and they were marked as cable access doors. The radio trucks with the Helmet tops all had a supplemental ground grid embedded into them to act as a ground plane...
I just read through all 6 pages of this posting and never saw a mention of cleaning out the HMMWV's great CRAP TRAP between the radiator and the transmission cooler. These things love to collect leaves and garbage between them.
Have any of you gone through the cooling system troubleshooting flow chart in the TM9-2320-280-20-1 manual? Starting on page 2-164 you'll find a flow chart that walks you through the steps to diagnose problems with your cooling system. It's written so the average mechanic can follow the steps...
I had the same start stop problem a few years back and found that the engine fuel pump was not pumping. The tank pump will supply fuel to the filter but the engine mounted pump is needed to make sure the IP gets a continuous flow of fuel to keep the engine running. Here's a link to the pump I...
The slantbacks definitely have a cool look factor to them but you might want to consider the usefulness of the vehicle. The slantbacks have less usable space in the back area than other variants. It all depends on what you want it for I guess. If you have a chance to ride in one do it before...
The power steering pumps are very low cost items and hardly worth rebuilding. Checking online or with places like Cardone you can get a direct match for your old pump.
That's the newest of the turn signal switches but it does not include the flasher. This switch is used on several different vehicles and may or may not have the correct connector for the HMMWV. The "C" shaped piece in the picture is the self cancelling ring and has a small plastic pin that...
That switch is the same one AMG used on the M151A2 series and was mounted by a bracket and hose clamp. In the HMMWV the bracket is welded to the column and the switch attaches with 4 screws. The switch contacts do wear out over time and can be burnished to make them work again but it doesn't...
A bad flasher has nothing to do with the brake lights although the turn signal switch that they both pass thru does. All it's doing is providing a pulsing signal to the switch, the switch then does all the proper connections.
DREDnot, had the same issue with my blackout lamp. The clear lens had fallen out and the lamp filled up with water. By the time I found it all I had inside was glass and iron oxide!
The light staying on indicates a bad flasher unit and no, your not going to find an exact replacement at your auto parts store. Grote makes a commercial 24 volt flasher that can be wired into the system but it doesn't come with the standard 3 pin connector on it. I wrote up the modification...
The Bose and Racal headsets need bias power for the mics that isn't provided by the 1780 and most of the older radios and that's why they won't work. If the radios audio connector is a 6 pin connector you still need to be careful because some sets use pin F as a power pin and some use is as a...
There are two different styles of bail out cables that were used with military headsets. Both styles use a standard UG-229 (5 pin) or UG-329 (6 pin) connector to attach to the radio. The breakaway connector on the early style bailout cables looks like the top of a 9 volt battery with 2 sets of...
80063 is the cage code for the US Army CECOM group. Communications and Electronics Command. You'll see this designation on almost all the Sincgars related pieces. The actual part number is the SM-D number.
The Commercial And Government Entity (CAGE) Code is a five-character ID number used...
In the military Julian Date system the first number is the last digit of the year and the following three digits are the day of the year. The system works well with one exception. In this case the 1 could represent 1991, 2001, or 2011. Nasa and the rest of the world use the Julian calendar...
