Humvee Mechanic in the So Cal Ventura County Area

You can always check with Hummer of Westlake Village but be prepared to pay through the nose.

    Turn Signal Switch replacement

The problem is that the cancelling ring pin breaks off and then your back in the same boat as the old style.

    Fluid on rotors

Just give it a good sniff. If it smells like sulfur it's gear oil. Silicon brake fluid has almost no smell at all.

    Power steering fluid.

You did say that the fan stayed engaged when the fluid was low which is correct. The failure mode in the system is always engaged so the cooling system works if there's a problem. It's a noisey power sucker but it keeps the engine cool. The fluid causes the clutch to disengage when you trip...

    Central CA show in April

Luckily this show is the week before the MVCCs Petaluma MV meet so people can attend both if they want to.

    60A Alternator Brush Holder alignment

Sarah, the brush holder should be 90 degrees to the sliprings and there is a small amount of adjustment range with the mounting screws. This is to insure the brushes wear evenly and don't chatter as the alternator runs. Use some fine grit sandpaper to arc the new brushes so they fit evenly on...

Anyone know what the 2 circut breakers under the steering wheel work? Dash lights may

If you look at the schematics in the -20 manual you'll find that CB1 feeds power to the heater switch and that CB2 feeds power to the Start/Run switch.

Pre-Air Intake Cap Modifications - More air to the engine ?

I used a 5" section of an old snorkle tube to get the mushroom up and out of the hood well. I can't really tell if it made a difference or not. I think an even bigger restriction is the openings in the exhaust headers and I've never seen a solution for them.

What radio for Mutt M151A2 ?

I've looked for years for a listing of the various configurations of the MRC series radios. Does anyone have one that could be copied or know where to find one? In searching I find that the USMC liked to designate complete vehicle/radio systems as MRC radios where the Army would assign that...

Setting belt tension with a Belt Tension Gauge TM 9-2320-280-2

Tighten the alternator until you have about an inch or so of travel when pushing on the belts by hand. You want it tight enough so it doesn't squeel when starting from a dead stop. Be careful not to overtighten as this loads the alternator shaft and causes excess wear on the bearings.

    M998 Brake Issue

Take a look at the E place and compare the pictures there with what you have. You might also take a look at your cylinder for casting numbers and then head down to a good auto parts place like Napa and see if they can cross reference it for you. It's probably just a standard, off the shelf...

    RPM noise through vic-1/h-161 headsets.

What you need for this is a noise filter on your input power line. The cost for the filter will depend on how much current you plan on drawing through the eleectronics. You will need more than a simple ferrite that clamps onto the wiring, your going to need something that the device current...

    Smoking Alternator: norm or not?

Everyone knows that electronics run on the magic smoke and when it comes out things stop working................. Same with your alternator. About the only place on a HMMWV where some smoke is normal is from your tailpipe on startup.

    EZ-TCU controller for 4L80e

Nanneye, I was tongue in cheek laughing at your post about saving money. I don't think there's any way a HMMWV owner will ever save money on one of these beasts unless you can get Uncle Sam to maintain it for you. The vehicle prices have gone sky high, the parts proces have gone sky high, and...

    M998 starting issue

That's not a rersistor per se but it is a current shunt that developes a small voltage across it when the vehicle is drawing current from the batteries. That voltage shows up on pins in the STE/ICE connector next to the shifter and is used by the STE/ICE test set to determine how much current...

    M998 starting issue

I can't stress strongly enough that you need to build or buy and install the supplemental ground kit. Your going to save yourself lots of headaches down the line. These vehicles need it more than almost any other. There are plenty of instructions posted around the web on how to put one...
