As pointed out above. Throwing parts at it is not the way to fix the problem. "Mil spec" can mean a lot depending on who wrote it. What exact part number glow plugs did you put in? Search for any of the many threads dealing with glow plug resistor bypass procedures. Do that and I would...
I really hate long run on paragraphs on internet forums. I try real hard to keep mine 3-5 sentences and at least a double space before the next one. I have made two post today and both had at least 3 paragraphs when I wrote them. Yet, they posted as a big block. Any idea what is causing...
I have seen magazine or internet write ups for years that talk about how the M1009 has an extra spring leaf on the front making it a 3/4 truck compared to the 1/2 civilian K5 Blazer. I have treated them as most things on the internet or in magazines should be treated, blah, blah, blah. We all...
It took him almost 3 hours, but he did the lift pump swap and has a greater appreciation of jobs that look simple now. We put a few hundred miles on it this week and are getting right at 18 mpg for two tanks. We put in a new spin on filter as part of the lift pump bleeding process. There sure...
I just got some for both of my M1009's. Rubber cork was the key word at the local Ace hardware. I tried several sizes and found what they call a 1 inch fit in flush with the outside. I only tried it on one side of my M1009. Of course it didn't fit as good on the other side or on RED...
He dropped the transmission pan, cleaned it, replaced the filter and put in 1.5 gallons of fluid this morning. While it was warming up to get the fluid level just right we saw what looked like coolant dripping from the front axle. Turned out to be fuel. The lift pump is leaking.
We had...
Is this going to be like the Gasser Tipper you bought a few years ago? Pictures of the bed posted by different people as it moves around the country and never getting to Florida?
Good find by the way. I would like something similar myself for a project truck I am messing with.
Lots of razor blade cut pie shaped wedges for the wheel wells and 3M spray adhesive to hold it on. The front required cutting at the heater outlet and coming off the tunel in the front.
Do you by chance mean utility spot light? You want a movable one like police use on the A pillar or something lighting up the back of the truck in the tail gate area. More info please.
Check the grounds anywhere and everywhere on the truck as suggested above. I would also suggest reaching up behind the dash and making sure the big plug that has all the wires to the gauge cluster is all the way seated. I had one come loose once and all kinds of silly things were happening...
It turned out great. Post number 32 shows Colton cutting in the rear seat mounts of this thread:

There are some more pictures later in the thread with everything installed.
We installed a stereo system over...
I have a M1009 that only works on high speed now. Won't even move in low. The other M1009 works sometimes on both speeds and other times won't even come on or just stops somewhere in the sweep. I haven't tested anything on them yet, but am thinking switch as much as motor. Just another part...
Sorry to hear about your friend. I saw the news stories, but didn't know him myself. One of our teachers used to be the dispatcher over there and I am covering for her so she can go the funeral tomorrow.
We got ball joints, tie rod ends, axle u-joints, brake flush and a few other things done...
When putting power to glow plugs that are out of an engine like Karl did. Please put on safety glasses. I have had a few go "POP!" as soon as I put power to them. Little bits of hot metal go flying when this happens.
Why put power to them? I wanted to see why it was only pulling .8 Ohms, or...
Did you pull the gauge cluster to swap the bulbs or just reach up to do it? The big plug on the back of the cluster, the copper leads on the cluster, the ends that have to be clean, the holder, the contacts on the holder and the bulb all could have an effect on if it lights up or not. Plus the...
The stock system is designed to come on when the coolant level is below 125°. Any 6.2 you have seen start "cold" without glow plugs either had the coolant that high or had a glow plug system that wasn't working correct. Will a 6.2 start in warmer weather without glow plugs? Sure, it might...
I think we need some more information here. Fresh clean diesel, new filters, just started doing this, just got the truck running after it was under water for 15 years, etc...?
Another problem is the truck was set up for power steering. Caster angles used to be changed between non power and power steering vehicles. The K5 had only power as your choice. Putting a non power box in there would make it very, very hard to steer at slow speeds. I just searched and could...
