Doesn't CAT make their own hardware? Or at least sell their own line of hardware? I remember reading on race-dezert.com that it's a great source for high-quality fasteners.
Amen. I've spent many many times what I paid for Mah Deuce, turning it into what it is, and will become. The price we pay for these vehicles does not reflect their real value. Not trying to tell anyone else how they should spend their money, but I don't have any qualms about dumping it into mine.
Thanks. It's really the fold-out platforms that I like so much. I had thought about doing something like that along the sides of my truck and/or trailer, but it didn't occur to me to stagger the heights like that.
Yeah, that's exactly what I did. I actually got rid of that trailer and bought an M103A3, and I'm building a custom enclosure for it. Just wanted something a little bit smaller, and it will be full of tools and toys. Sort of a mobile workshop.
Love that staircase!!! Going to copy that idea when I build the enclosure for my M103A3 trailer. Oh yeah, and I've got an M109 motorhome conversion in progress too. No build thread yet.
Thanks for the link, and the info. That's pretty much what I was imagining. Cool to see how you put it all together though. Can't see how there would be enough room for the cable to spool onto the winch properly if it were mid-mounted parallel to the framerails, outside the frame. But...
Running the winch from inside the cab seems like the sketchiest part of the whole deal, regardless of what kind of winch it is. I don't want to be anywhere in the path of a broken winch cable whipping back towards the truck.
What about mounting the stock winch behind the rear axle, and snaking the cable forward to the front bumper within a tube, probably running down the driver's side? mid-mounted winches work? Talking about the cables are routed so they can pull from the front or rear. Doubled back on themselves so...
Thanks. I'll look into that. Sounds like a simple solution, and would be especially effective if I end up figuring out how to center-mount a 2.5-ton winch. You know, just to keep tension more than anything else.
Just trying to weigh-out all my options. Not sure I really NEED a level-wind, but it sure would be nice. Nice enough to be worth all the extra trouble? Mmmm, dunno yet. Thinking about all kinds of things, including the possibility of center-mounting a winch somehow, and in that case I imagine a...
