Let me add to Clinto's cell phone warno. In years past it was not uncommon for folks to have dead cell phones by noon. As the phone searches for signals, it sucks battery life. Airplane mode helps if you need your battery to last. Plan on some type of external battery or charging system...
That Cafe Press site Chris Stansbury set up decades ago. Those are from Steel Soldiers. Sorry about not having the light switch decals as of late. Going to see if I can get some before the rally in GA.
That does it. Can't get side curtains or doors for an M151A2. You are hereby notified to scuttle said vehicle somewhere near the registation tent. Please be certain that the tank is full of ethanol free fuel for disposal purposes
I share the frustration of the mountain grades now that I live in the GA mountains. More often than not, I threaten the 454 swap. I need to find the right balance here.
Since you are already aware of the sins you committed, I won't comment. I guess the big question in my mind was what made you choose the 36 over any run of the mill deuces? Was it just the best truck you had? Fredo in on this venture?
Another notable mention about the CUCV factory system is both alts are the same. Keeping a spare alt and a rebuild kit or two sure makes things easy. I need to practice what I preach on this.
Only problem with not using 12V is that is what the truck needs to run. Rather than invent another wheel, keep a spare alt on hand or keep a charged jump box onboard. What if your 24v fails?
As long as these folks aren't selling me food and fuel, they can do as they wish. A monoply on the sales of HMMWVs in the grand scheme, doesn't affect much. No one really needs a HMMWV, or do they?
If you were to run the CUCV on a straight 24V charging, you would eventually get a battery imbalance as one battery (front one) would have a constant drain vs the back battery. This would be similar to a center tap for power. With 2 12v alts even if one fails you could swap batteries back and...
Let me add this. If ultimately you wanted the 14 bolt for a blazer, you might consider shopping for on (or at least a housing) out of a 3/4 ton truck or burb. These are usually not cost prohibitive and the spring a shock mounts will be in the proper location.
In their stock form, the dual 12V isolated ground alts do exactly what you want. They keep both batteries charged with varying loads of 12V and 24V. If you only want to run one alt , do as Rustystud says and run the Vannar. Running 2 alts could be done with 2 iso ground 12V or a 12 and 24 iso...
The rear still may have some limited value for a buggy or off roader. The gear set may be salvagable for that kind of low speed use and it does (or should) have a Detroit NoSpin in the back. That is an easy drop in for any open carrier 14 bolt.
