VRC47 setting links in the MT 1029 and MT 1898

Reference TM 11-5820-401-35-9 You only need to connect the CX-4720 to the MT-1029 mount and the CX-4721 between it and the MT-1898 for power, In the MT-1898 connecting link E13 to E14 powers the receiver directly from the batteries. Connect E12 to E13 when powering from the AM-1780.

Was the RT246 problematic with the push buttons?

The RT-246 has all of the features of the 524 with the addition of 10 channel selection but at the expense of an internal speaker. As Augi says it was installed where frequency selection was necessary but the radio needed to be mounted remotely. They were used by the USAF in their GRC-206...

    Racal Headsets

Here's a picture of V3 of the adapter box. I had a bad connection in the U229 plug that I needed to fix and on your note I've epoxied a 20K trimpot to the inside of the adapter box to make the mic gain adjustable. I used a Hammond 1590A box for the project and everything fits into it well...

    Racal Headsets

The CX13479 bailout cords are getting a bit hard to find but here's another solution. This cable is made by Racal specifically to replace the long bailout cords with a shorter version. They can be purchased from Racal as pn#437936 but they're $200. Better to find them online if you can. We...

Identifying parts with SC-x part numbers

I know that the SB-131 lists all of the components in the installation kits by radio and vehicle but it would be nice if there was a "where used" catalog wouldn't it? My guess is that now that we have the computer capability to actually do something like this there's no money in anybodies...

    Racal Headsets

Steve, if the 174 is powering pin E of the U229 connector then all you'll need to do to get the ANR working is wire it to pin F of the U329 connector on the headset. The high gain issue on the mic could be fixed with a resistor inline but just moving the mic away from your mouth might also do...

E Brake Feels Locked & Then Breaks Free to Engage

The driveline Ebrake sucks to put it mildly. They will barely hold the vehicle stationary on flat ground and they're worthless on anything above 10 degrees. If you tighten them so they hold on a hill they will drag on the driveshaft rotor and warp it. I strongly suggest investing in 2 things...

    Is my EESS fried?

As I stated in my post I don't advocate the use of starting fluid (ether) because most folks don't know how to use it. It is an effective starting aid but all it takes is a quick shot and most people tend to spray it like bug killer. On your electrical issues two things are important here...

Hmmwv alternator overcharge and belt squeal.

In the common military 60 amp alternator overcharging is a symptom of the 50 watt resistor in the regulator blowing out. Jumpy voltage is a symptom of the brushes wearing out and low voltage output is usually indicative of a regulator failure. If that's all that's happened they can be replaced...

    HF Radios for HMMWV

For years it seemed like the military was changing them out all the time. There were complete front panels on eBay quite often. If your looking for one I would suggest Googling it and see what turns up.

    Racal Headsets

Last weekend we took out a Sincgars set and a PRC-68 and tested the headsets with a small junction box that I made up to the test wiring and to be able to reconfigure it if necessary. Our tests proved the Racal Raptors will work with the older VIC-1 and earlier PRC radios by either rewiring the...

    Seized brakes

The front calipers are really inexpensive (<$30) from almost any auto parts store and generally aren't worth rebuilding. Napa # SDC2421008 for the right front (87 Eagle Wagon) Napa # SDC2421009 for the left front (87 Eagle Wagon) $13.00 Each AMG 05579865 Front Caliper Rebuild Kit...

    Is my EESS fried?

Jersey is plenty warm this time of year so waiting for the glow plugs isn't necessary. Generally if it's over 70 degrees the engine should start on compression alone. I don't advocate the use of starter fluid but a quick shot into the air cleaner should have it fired right up. Now come this...

    HMMWV cleaning windshield??

You didn't mention which variant of HMMWV you have but if it has ballistic windshields and the soft anti-spalling polymer is on the outside they're installed backwards. The anti-spalling plastic should be in the inside top prevent glass particles from spraying the crew compartment if hit by a...

    Seat fabric

Check with Dave or Donna at WeeBee Webbing for 383 cordura seat fabric. 1-800-OD-CLOTH They've done a couple of sets of seat covers for my HMMWV and the nicest thing about the cordura is it doesn't fade out or sweat stain over time.
