The old design starters are highly prone to heat soak low cranking speeds, just like any 70's GM product. A simple upgrade to a modern gear reduction starter fixes this easily, weighs nearly half, is 1/3 smaller, and can do away with the external solenoid if desired. I have these starters in...
Thanks for your interest Mike. I'll fab together the first prototype within the next 2 weeks and post installed pics, then list as available in classifieds. Ships in primer, paint your favorite flavor. This will be easier, faster, lighter, zero maintenance, and a lower priced way to throw an...
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?125575-M923-air-conditioning-a-c-install-project&p=1855415#post1855415Post #121, let me know who is serious and I will fab, test, and place in classifieds.
That kit is heavy, expensive, V-belt, and a big pain in the a$$. Moves your fan forward so it doesn't hit the new V belt, additional pulley bolts onto front of crank pulley, etc... I had the kit and sold it because I wanted to stay serpentine drive, and because it's price went up through the...
It's likely blow-by. Compression is about 100psi lower than it is supposed to be, and it almost does not start. About 20 seconds of cranking before it lights off on a warm day. Even the pistons showed it by having carbon tracks past the top ring.
Wildflower wanted me to post this video he shot yesterday with his calculator on its side. 58 pages of blow-by! Now going the path of installing another used LDT engine.
Thought I read somewhere that the 5T disc conversion kits are really just for mud boggers and the like, in that they don't have strength to stop a loaded truck, multiple times, in traffic, downhill, etc....?
My float was flooded AND gauge was broken. Took a while to figure it out simultaneously. Ran out of fuel a few times while doing so. That sucked, my fault.
I disagree, but each their own. When we design and sell alternators to our customers, we don't label them as not being able to recharge the vehicle batteries if low. If we did, our sales would drop to zero. The problem is low quality alternators sourced from the lowest bidder without...
For battery recharge, batteries will only accept as much charge as they "want", so by being able to supply 400A does not mean they will take it. This is something a lot of people don't get. It depends on their discharge level. A completely dead battery accepts very little current at first...
Rear mounts are universal to the flywheel housing, so that should (?) change over directly. The front mount cross member is unique to each engine, so you would need that. Not sure about fan spacing. 8.3 will double your fuel economy, and can be easily turned up in both power and RPM (speed)...
The dual-voltage ones are not the most reliable units. Also, that is a very heavy and large alternator. The stock military and civilian alternator bracketry is not up to the task of supporting that unit correctly through vibration, etc.... Also, 8 batteries is almost enough to make it a...
Lube the modulator cable which goes to the throttle linkage, easy to do on the throttle linkage end. Pull back the boot and drown it in WD-40 with a straw while pulling on the cable core and letting it snap back. Mine shifts smooth as butter, like it should. It should never be rough, it is...
Disagree. How does human error produce a dead alternator? Poor system architecture, low temp rated electronics, and inadequate cooling typically wipes out the stock MV alternators, pages of them here of which committed suicide while trying to recharge low SOC (state of charge) batteries after...
If a Cummins has oil, it has oil pressure. I switched to a correct military 270 degree mechanical sweep gauge that illuminates through the clear case, now you can really feel what is going on with it, the pressure needle swings up and down with the tach. The electric gauge is about useless...
