What are your plans for wood? Cranetruck has made a few sets of boards for pipeline beds using yellow locust. Stuff is hard on nails and saws but wears like iron.
Sorry I'm late in answering. I have not tried to insulate the steel toppers yet. Here are a bunch of parts and wood that I bolted together to make a trailer. Just made a 1500 mile trip with it. Really like that topper on there.
For some odd reason, the 4L80E doesn't last in this truck. 1st one was fried by a faulty controller. Second one was likely builder error. Third went 60,000 or so before it started acting up. Hope he has better luck with this one.
Drew, more on the road ability of the thing in this thread...
Doing a friend a favor. The 4L80E in this CUCV went away. Delivered it to a family member of the owner about 75 miles down the road. Bolts had no issue dragging down the turnpike.
Long deuce trips can be daunting for some, therapeutic for others. I've done 700 miles in a day and that was with another deuce piggybacked behind. That was an extreme day and had a deadline. Most travel days were 500 miles. Many times they would be with one of my kids in tow. There are many...
There are a couple of ways to run hydraulics. A front winch PTO, and accessory drive off that same PTO or a transfer case PTO. Your pump would need to be matched to winch flow requirements. 20,000 is more that enough power. You could do it with a 6000# winch if you have enough cable and...
Yikes, the hitch looks frightening. Looks like the high pintle is bolted to flat stock. I would question it's dependability during crisis braking or sudden avoidance maneuvers
To help everyone understand, John brought over some stuff from this thread. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?152226-Gas-motor-12-volt-amp-painless-wiring-harness&highlight=.
As far as dependability, I think it is unfair to categorize all stock CUCVs are being undependable. Luck...
Speaking of average speeds, this was from my return trip yesterday. My moving average was 65.1 but ran into a road closure in my neighborhood and had to make a U-turn. I didn't stray from the truck at all the entire trip.
I was jonesing for cruise control this week. Wouldn't have been worth much in the mountains but I had 450 miles each way that I would have really enjoyed cruise.
I should have a couple of more. I'm disposing of a ton of stuff and one of my 3 CUCVs is already in place. One bedroom suite is going but that is all in the furniture Dept. I may need to o do a small uhaul van and that is it. Your road to the south was much more daunting.
Perhaps an inline design is better. We are not dealing with that. We are dealing with a 30 year old truck subject to crank failure. Let's talk about symptoms and solutions to this. The harmonic balancer has been a prime suspect but it might not be acting alone. I know of many more 6.2 s that...
12 hours in the saddle alone gives you plenty to think about stuff. Whilst running the CUCV pretty tight I was considering some issues. Now let me preface this by saying that I am not metallurgist and certainly not an engineer. I do have a little common sense and horse sense. On the subject of...
I'm back in the South again. My average moving speed for the 723 mile ride back to FL was 64.7 MPH. The trip south was largely uneventful. The truck ran magnificently. Little over 1500 miles with the trip up and back and running around in GA. Very pleased with the 4.10 gear change.
Fear not, takes time for all the bugs to surface. Just got back 90 minutes ago from a 1500 mile trip to GA. Granted, I've had the truck 7 years working out the bugs along the way.
