Awesome!!!! I've been wanting to add jakes to one of our M818's for a while now. We plan on straight piping one of the trucks soon. I can't wait to see the video. There is a video on youtube of an old cabover with a NHC 250 with jakes. I bet that truck sounds great!!
Thanks for the pics...
The Allison 750 is a stout trans but the cool factor of a truck that big to me is minimized with a slushbox. I wish they had 18spd with a aux trans. Then driving that truck would seperate the men from the boys. Even at $20k its a heck of a bargain for what the truck is capable of hauling. A...
Andy,
I feel your pain I was booted out around 14k but I was hoping a down economy would help keep prices down on these- It didn't! The last M911's out of Indiana were all rougher shape and all seemed to go for $20k.
Something about a truck that weighs 40k, dual 45k winches, outboard...
I drove our A3 over 400 miles last Tuesday and I'm always amazed at how slow the A3 is. With the 14.5's going 52mph you are spinning approx 2700 rpm's. which is CRAZY fast for the Cat 3116. 45mph is a more relaxed crusing speed but is unsafe on the interstate in my opinion as truckers going...
Go through 1-5 in low range and shift the trans to 4th and pull the transfer case lever up to high range at the same time as you are shifting. You have to be fast. This way you avoid the 3rd to 4th gear high range power killing transmission gap. Thats how I "split shift" if I'm pulling...
Agree with ODdave. I had an NV5600 in my 2001 Dodge Cummins 4x4. It's a notchier shifting trans compared to the NV4500 I had in my 2003 Dodge diesel. The NV5600's won't take the abuse like a NV4500 from what I've seen. Most Dodge pullers use the NV4500's that are built. Parts for rebuilding...
We have a customer who is a Steel Soldiers member who purchased one of our late model depot rebuild M818 tractors with 1100's. He is upgrading to the 1600 single tires and won't need the 1100's. Tires are mounted on rim and are all the newest Titan brand of tire. Tires are 90+ % tread or...
The Allison rep told me to just pull a trans return cooler line and run a hose into a bucket. Start the truck and add fluid quickly to match the amount coming out. Keep an eye on the color change of the fluid to know when the new fluid starting to flush. I'm sure an Allison expert can add...
I believe they are 20,000lbs. We have one from our bridge truck which we plan on installing on a headache rack on one of our M818's. They are a nice winch.
A3's you gotta pay to play
The A3 transmission is an Allison 1545 which is kind of an oddball. We have an M36a3 right now that we are going to need to pull the trans on as its having issues. Looking at the data for this trans for max hp and torque output it's right at the peak for the A3...
As others mentioned welcome to the NHC 250 club. A block heater will be your best friend. You can get a 1500watt heater for approx $60 if you look around plug it in for 2 hours prior to starting and it will start right after you bump the starter switch.
Personally I'd get rid of the 4...
Combst32- Thanks for the offer. We are looking for a good condition original M812 that has been uncut. We sold our last M812 to a logger in Arkansas and I kick myself. We did a bit of work to that truck (new rod and main bearings, adjusting all the brakes, new fan bearings, new master...
If anyone knows of a good M812 bridge truck out there please PM me! I'd love to have another one to fix up. I'm just interested in M809 series Cummins powered bridge trucks though.
