Instead of forcing a positive interpretation of somewhat grey policy, why not just lobby for black letter law stating that military surplus vehicles, to include hmmwvs, are eligible to be licensed for normal use?
A black letter law won't be subject to later reinterpretation by...
The NHTSA will not be your ally in this.
Although you're correct in your assertion that the FMVSS is the limit as far as what states my set as the requirements, the states may apply the FMVSS to any vehicles as a condition of registration. The opinion of the NHTSA legal counsel is that the...
"All owners of all surplus military vehicles"
Edit to clarify -
E. The provisions of this section shall apply to all owners of military surplus motor vehicles registered with the Department under any other provision of this Code prior to July 1, 2018. Such owners shall, based on a schedule and...
The wheel swap to dualled 11.00's should work. I've used one on a 1082 trailer.
I wouldn't try to make the bed into a dump. The bed itself would probably be ok, but the sides are fragile. I'd replace the whole thing with a dump bed. (I had a guy trying to buy the bed off my m1082 for use as a...
according to the state police, no sticker = no normal plates. They did not indicate that they'd make exceptions for vehicles where stickers were removed.
This is going to be a nightmare to enforce.
I can't think of a way to quantify prices there.
It's interesting to note, the places that are restricting hmmwvs and other military vehicles aren't referencing the HHA and the off road stamp. They're restricting them all. And the places that are allowing on road use are also not paying any...
I'll take that bet...
Condition - compare average selling price for all GP auction hmmwv's for the 2017 year, compared to average selling price for all GP auction hmmwv's for 2018. We'll define "decrease greatly" as 20% or more difference in across the board ending bid for all variants of...
You'd be able to get the restricted MV plate, which allows for limited on-road use.
Or maybe anything... we have yet to see how it'll actually be implemented. Want to be the test case?
It mentions hmmwvs specifially . It mentions the vehicles used by agencies, where the government retains ownership. It also mentions the surplus civvy vehicles.
5ton trucks, deuces, etc, are conspicuous in their absence. There's plenty of people with 5tons registered as historic vehicles in...
As written, it's ambiguous as to what will actually happen during implementation. My best guess says some people will have no problem getting unrestricted plates for everything including the off road stamped hmmwvs, while other people won't be able to get plates for their deuce or 5ton.
It's...
"My car is on display every time I drive it" sounds unreasonable to you, because it works in favor of the individual.
However, the state's position is "your cat is on display every time it's out of the house on a leash" seems perfectly reasonable to them, when they want me to have an...
I wouldn't count on it. If you were a left leaning judge, who wanted all those big scary green trucks off the road, how would you interpret this -
"The provisions of this section shall apply to all owners of military surplus motor vehicles registered with the Department under any other...
