    Charging system (yes I searched!!)

The regulators are the quick and easy first shot at repairing the 60 amp alternators. By replacing it you have replaced the major components that control the charging system but the brushes and brush block are equally important to system. They provide the field voltage to the rotor and if...

    Issues with 2.56 ratio diffs

Mornin' Greg, If we've got 2.56 gears they why are we sooooooo sssslllloooowwwwww? Wouldn't 3.08s slow us down even more? Kurt

    Windshield Replacement

I had mine replaced years ago by a local glass shop. The job is pretty easy but you need to make sure they have the right thickness in stock. There were different thicknesses depending on the model of your truck. Just remove the retaining brackets and push the old one out of the frame...

    Issues with 2.56 ratio diffs

Isn't the standard HMMWV diff gearing 3.08? If you've got 2.56 gears in the front case they're fighting each other big time. I think 2.56 gears were used in the H1s. Kurt

    hmmwv mod

If you do a search for 24v car radio on the auction site you'll find several inexpensive radios that will eliminate the potential problems associated with hooking up 12 volt radio in a 24 volt system. They're not fancy CD units but basic simple radios that will work well and most do have an...

    hmmwv exhaust heat shield noise???

Had exactly the same problem with the heatshield on the crossover pipe. When I originally got it the shield was welded on the wrong side of the pipe and the welds I did when I switched it over didn't hold. I ended up hose clamping it and haven't had problems since.

    PRC77 carrier squelch conversion question

The A24Cs were built about 40 years ago now and were never available in large quantities. I probably still have 1 or 2 around but they're spares for my radios. When I was working in Chachoengsao we would routinely visit the Ban Mo market in Bangkok for parts and I'm sure there are some...

    HMMWV Starter

Steve, remember that the 8 ga lead from the alternator output finds it's way to the batteries via the starter motor (+) terminal.

My PD acquired a M998 and I need help

One of the first things I'd suggest if your department screened the vehicle is to go back to the agency you got it from and ask if there are any parts or partial vehicles available from the same source. Mine was a damaged truck that that had been given to the forestry department to cannibalize...

SoCal 2015 Summer Rally Sept, 18-20 Big Bear California San Bernardino Mtns. Camping

And just think, instead of heading home that Sunday you can all head up highway 5 to Lodi and the Camp Delta meet the following week! A convoy from Big Bear to Lodi, what an event that would be! Kurt

HMMWV Junk Yards in California or anywhere

You need to have a little understanding of the property disposal system here. The system assigns a demil requirements primarily to assembled items such as HMMWVs, radios, and property it deems defense related and not for release to the general public. Almost all ordnance and ammunition related...

    Taillight mounting holes stripped out???

The keyserts from Fastenall are probably the best option to repair stripped threads because they use standard size taps to install them.. Another option would be Helicoils but they require non-standard taps for installation. Something else to look out for is replacement lamp housings. They're...

    1990 6.2 hmmwv idle issues

If the THS is telling the engine that it's always cold it could. The GPC probably wouldn't because all it does is tell the PCB the engine is cold and fire up the glow plugs when starting. See if you can determine which control box is installed in your truck and make sure things are properly...

    Replacement Headlights

I've been running halogen H4s in my vehicles for years and love them. I have a set of Hellas in my HMMWV with 24v bulbs installed and i also run the higher output (90-100W) bulbs. I have a set of cheapie Autopals in my 151 that work just as well. I think the quality of the bulb is more...

    1990 6.2 hmmwv idle issues

A little more information here would be helpful. You didn't say whether this was a new truck or a new problem on an older one. The early 6.2s used a glow plug controller (GPC) on the crossover manifold, after the introduction of the S3 control boxes that changed to a thermal sensor (THS)...

testing the PRC-25 and PRC-77 radios

You know after 40 years or so cold solder joints and bad contacts and connections can play havoc with these radios. Half the time just running the tuning knobs around wipes the contacts clean and they start working again. If you can find a can of "tuner lube" or "contact cleaner" you might...

Where's the best place to get n On/ Off switch replaced for a PRC-77?

I'm heading to Belgium tomorrow but if you can wait until next week I can pull one from a hulk and send it to you. PM me with a mailing address to send it to. If you need someone to replace it for you I can do that too but it won't be for a week or so. Kurt Lesser KG6KMJ

    Does a 12V M-series voltmeter exist?

Although it's not a perfect match check the Euro gauges on Farias website. They have a 2", 12v gauge. Look at the Euro beige gauge. http://faria-instruments.com/styles.php Kurt KG6KMJ
