I can't help but wonder if that isn't a sort of "fuse" designed in to keep from destroying the box itself if some sort of impact were to happen on a wheel end.
Better yet, replace the spring and clean and lube the pedal pivot pin. Although the pivot pin sticking is the most common problem, the return spring being in good shape is a safety concern. Replacement springs are cheap and plentiful.
If you turn the main power switch on, can you hear the pump run in the tank? Do you get fuel out of the bleed screw on top of the filter housings on the driver side? If you do, leave the switch on with the bleeders closed for 10-15 minutes and see if you can see fuel dripping or leaking...
You don't need the straps. The A3 straps are a hair longer because the aluminum tank is slightly thicker. If you are patient you can reuse the A2 straps and bolts, if you can't get it that way just get some bolts that are 1" longer.
Should fit if it has provisions for three mounting points. I know the m49 and m66 rings both fit the deuce, so I don't know why the 68 wouldn't. And the m49 is a LOT older design than the 66.
I wouldn't sell that truck for less than $6500. Keep in mind that is sight unseen to us though and I would also clean the fuel tank out and fix the boot and wheel seal first. It would help if you post some pics of the truck, but be careful not to turn this into a classified ad.
The crews are probably still in their tanks in the bottom of the channel too, never to be recovered. Seems almost wrong to never have them return home and have a proper burial, but also would feel wrong to remove them.
I failed to realize you were north of the border! Definitely search Hastings Products though. They are a well established company as far as quality and (here) availability.
There are many manufacturers that make similar products of good quality. I have a bottle of Hastings diesel coolant additive on the shelf in the shop. Still, thank you for broaching the subject.
