Bicycles are brutally dependable for such an event. Unless you have your own fuel supply and hand pump, vehicles won't be of much value. If you do have a fuel supply, you will likely have to post a century to guard it. Generally, the doomsday, prepper, foil hat conversations are prohibited...
No, they were not. At last count, several years ago, there were 4 trucks parked in the back with no front axles. He has long since got out of CUCVs and the trucks are all gone (found 2 in junk yards) but I surely remembered and implemented a few security measures with my stuff.
The front axle will bolt right in. You will need to use the spring plates and brake lines from the Oh8. The rear will need the spring perches moved out (wider) and new shock mounts. Another consideration will be the rear driveshaft. You will need to have a new yoke installed or use a...
All of my CUCVs have the original keys. It doesn't make them easier to steal but it does make them easier to enter. After a local produce farmer had a number of his CUCV field trucks stolen and recovered without front axles, I learned that a few extra safeguards might be warranted. It will...
Oh, I hear you on that one. I ended up getting a bed off an M116A3 which is what I really needed. Add a light frame and put it to work with the father in law unit.
If one were to fabricate that kind of carrier, I have a thought that might help. Consider building it where you could bolt a front spindle to the bumper and use a hub and wheelbearings to attach the spare tire carrier to. Not only would it swing effortlessly, you would have a spare hub...
What do you plan on doing with it? Anything is possible but it might get costly. Mighty stiff and I'm not sure you could load that kind of weight into the truck short of lead bars and the like.
Haha, I don't have much but my wife is still a little befuddled. I only have 3 CUCVs and 2 trailers but I'm storing an M200 with genset, a car trailer with a knuckleboom on it, a deuce wrecker and an enclosed car trailer. The other day I had the tan CUCV that I've had a couple of years out in...
I am the wrong person to ask this question. If I grow to like something, I just don't sell things. On the other hand, when I grow weary of seeing things, they sell at any cost or get scrapped. I sold mine for $750 and should have probably looked more for $1400.
A question if I may. Rebuilders here want $100 more for a rebuild of a 4x4 tranny. Is there more work or more expensive parts or just a way to gouge the off road crowd?
This is not meant to perpetuate a disagreement but to make certain that the original poster gets factual information. If the front hubs are unlocked and the rear driveshaft removed, why would the trans and transfer need to be in neutral? The only reason I can think of would be the fear of...
