While I appreciate the historical accuracy of the spare tire carrier, it would be lower on my list of must haves. As a former owner of a few M275A2s, I know all too well about being without a spare. As you mentioned, you do have a bunch of spares on the ground . With 2 spares on the trailer, I...
I've flat towed alot of deuces with other deuces. Eventually they get up to speed but it sure takes patience. Eventually they stop but is sure takes patience. Weight wise you should be ok. On the record I would caution against it without brakes. If you insist on doing it, you better be on...
As far as the pumps and such. When GM bid the contract, they bid the whole contract without changes so all of the trucks sold are exactly like the 84 (first year). If you are going to a parts house to buy stuff, forget what year your truck is and get parts for an 84 K-30 and you should be good...
I think the gin pole idea is very good. The hard work is already done. How is the rear winch powered? This is such a cool story. I remember my first 5 ton win. It was a 67 M54A2C from GSA on a sealed bid. I was shocked to win it at $527. I miss the suspense of sealed bids and live DRMO auctions.
If you go with a basic bottle jack, grab some cribbing or a chunk of 6x6. It sure makes a difference if you need to change a flat with the limited stroke of the bottle jack. I drive the flat up on cribbing any time I have to change a flat.
If you have some basic but heavy tools, consider the flat rate USPS boxes and send some ahead. I did that with a towbar once while recovering 2 deuces in TN.
Er, I wouldn't sell the 700R4 short quite yet. At less than half the cost of a GV, they are appealing. There are dozens of CUCVs with them and no reported failures. 3.06 first gear is a blessing as well. Hotrodders are running over 500 hp through them as well. All the early glitches have been...
Geetings friends. Is there anyone able to stop by goldneagle's place and transport a CUCV seatback to the GA Rally? Must be a few folks coming up from Bayou country.
I have seen many reports on folks running 2 batteries on these. I think you will be just fine. If ever there was a candidate for a drive offf recovery, this might be the one.
I have done the following on my CUCV. While not a HMMWV, it's still a 24V starting system. I have often used a single vehicle and a jump box with excellent results.
Yeah, Jerry bought the bed here in FL and was delivered to my house. I contracted the assistance of ODIron to do the chopping. After countless measurements, the cut and splice was made. I tried to balance the looks of the bed somewhat. The dropside has that raised section in the front so we...
