Nothing about "no maintenance" is specified in the bid package.
Roll in, fuel up (take your time), check the fluids (take your time), (somewhere in here the "site mrg" will have wandered of for a nap/donuts), install batteries, then install new headlight. See if it will start. Who cares what...
Re: RE: Cab size
No they don't sell anything, They have available FOR FREE all manner of field tested mil vehicle modification engineering drawings. They tell you how to do it. Everything you need to know. Make it yourself vs writing a check.
FD don't have to purchase DOD surplus. Available on indefinate loan from Uncle Sam thru US Forestery and State Foresters.
A portable pump has it's own engine (or it wouldn't be portable).
Yes 5t vs duece. I know 5t. For FD it often a drivers training issue and for a wildland truck a duece...
I have not seen anyone here mention Roscommon Equipment. A GREAT resource (paid for by the citizens of Michigan) for firefighters. Lots of mil equipment mod info. http://www.roscommonequipmentcenter.com
They have complete set of drawings available to build your own hard top...
Will mount 600 water tank with a portable pump. Haul misc FF gear and up to 3 men. Low speed off trail/road use for wildland fire use. Could be up to 20mi to get to fire scene.
Older models than the M35A2, were non turbo?
Air shift front axle (much better than sprag type, mandatory as far...
Re: RE: Aftermarket reduction transmission?
You want to know the SAE (Society of Automotive Eng) bellhousing size. I'll bet a broken Allison MT 634 (sad story) the duece has a std SAE size. This may help-

The M1 uses a little (sizewise) gas turbine engine with a large final drive attached.
M88 and AVLB both use a big honking Continental diesel (with minor variations).
The M9 has a Cummins V8
The M113 has a V6 Detroit
I'm not new the military vehicles. 25+ years. Just have not worked with anything as small as a duece. But a lot of decent ones available at present.
But many (as the FD I'm helping) want a truck small enough for non CD. Load appropriately (like 900gal) and they work out OK for wildland tiny...
Actually for my FD have M911.
But many (as the FD I'm helping) want a truck small enough for non CD. Load appropriately (like 900gal) and they work out OK for wildland tiny tanker work. 5t is better option for most applications.
Very few duece tankers available so not going to waste time
What is prefered model (or year) of M35 series. Leave out the M35A3.
Based on engine, turbo, features, etc. Looking for a duece for Fire Dept so have choice from whatever is available thru DOD surplus system (many available right now). Before looking at condition and miles. What is prefered...
And if my aunt had a ...... Apples to cornflakes. Or maybe of the new born to a great uncle.
The two cycle Detroit is now a 60+ year old engine and hundreds of thousands (or millions) are still produtively working. All it's contemporary competitors have long sense faded away Who will be...

The hard way/kit
I think I have a complete with approx 6' pigtail. Came off of a new in the crate DOD trailer. I'm pretty sure surplus to our needs. Will check.
3 versions
XM979, XM1061/M1061A are rated at 5t
XM1073 is rated at 7.5t
(Pretty conservative ratings)
Bed length varies from 12' to 14'
Photo is of our Fire Dept M1073 (w/3x 600gal pods). Very very nice trailer. Note has 2 drawbars (lower is telescoping/adjustible length).
Not good enough fit from the post to terminal??? There a prevention method? These were seconds donated by the local Exide factory to our Fire Dept. Not sure what made them seconds.
Possible to fix the posts? I seem to recall reading about installing a dam/pooring lead in to rebuild a post...
I had to pull a couple of 6TLs from one of our M911s for temp use in a MEP003. Found the + terminals in bad shape. What's the cause? I'm sure the terminals were in good condition when installed and the clamps were installed tight.
Or an electric/servo conversion for the mil air over hydraulic system (as M105/dollys/misc trailers. I've been looking for some time. I'm coming to the conclusion there is no such kit available (but that perhaps the world needs one). Anyone interested?
I won't make any claims to being an "expert" on fixing the M880s but we still had a BUNCH of them when I was on active duty in 1995-89. 9ID (MTZ) used them (the only unit in the Army to do so) as surrogate squad carriers (soon after I arrived replaced with M998). During my entire time in 9ID...
Pull out you copy of the -10 operators manual and -20 Main manual and inspect/repair such that there are no deadline gigs as per the PMCS. Turn in point frequently required many other repairs, occasionally such that there were no gigs as listed in the -10/-20 inspection.
Most/many of the...
