I have a 925A2. Withe the truck at idle and foot brake on, put trans into 1-5 and keep truck still. Pull PTO engagement lever back to engage. Let the truck creep forward a few feet while pulling the engagement lever. At this point you may feel it pull into engaged position. Then once back...
All good ideas, especially increasing pressure for the CTIS if you have it. Mine works better after doing so. But what I am making out of this is, if the governor always has a 20psi hysteresis, and he is only seeing a 10psi differential before blow-down, then either the air governor is (going)...
Well Cleatus, those are 48" tires, and it is **** near the top of the intermediate axle tire, so.......
I think the PTO (pump) should spin if the trans is in drive and the truck is driving forward......think, not sure. Will need to get stuck again and confirm, or, lay under the truck and have...
My 925A2 was stuck in 4' of mud, and the winch sucked it right out, didn't even need to snatch double the line. This was all in neutral. I was also wondering if the drive wheels can help out, but I forgot to check while doing so, and just did it all in neutral.
Reminder: Don't operate the...
"If you like your fan, you can keep your fan.". Ha! You can keep your fan Tommy Gun. Technology will pass you by with advances, and so will somebody with an electric fan! I respect your desire if to keep the truck original, but if it is function you are chasing, then a switched fan is the...
6CTA8.3 does not use a PT pump. They use a block mounted mechanical lift pump (with built in push button primer), that pushes fuel to a 6 piston inline injection pump (Bosch MW) similar but not same as what is commonly used on Cummins 5.9L engines.
I'm not familiar with a PT pump other than to...
Thanks. I think you posted and I edited at nearly the same time about blowing into the vent line. It seems to be a good diagnostic method, but I didn't see/understand how people were actually doing it besides saying they pressurized their tank(s), so the vent thing made me curious.
To answer...
I don't really understand how people are pressurizing their fuel tanks to prime and find leaks, such as the infamous flexible line permeation.
I would assume our fuel tanks are vented, and if so, how is one pressurizing the tank to find such leaks? Must either block the vent, supply enough...
That is a lot of questions for a new guy just pulling up a chair to the table. You can find a lot of this info yourself, just as I did when I first bought my 925A2 (8.3L). For example, look up what trans your truck has (Allison 5 speed MT654CR), then check the online specifications for that...
Take the metal direct drive fan off, and send it to China to be recycled into a Wal-Mart bicycle (or in your case trade it at the Findley swap for 25 new 9.00 - 20 NDT tires). Put a 24V electric fan on with a 195F on/off switch and relay, and be done with it. Sit back and enjoy much more...
Yes it is the air governor if as described by others as the horizontal aluminum canister just under the passenger windshield, not too expensive, available at NAPA in a conventional part number and waterproof part number (more expensive, same as military issue). The "crimped" plastic cap threads...
If you ever saw a picture of a busted transfer case after Lo-reverse, you would probably not try it. That was the deal breaker for me to completely avoid it. The one I saw a pic of, the entire lower half of the case was missing, and all the gears fell out and were gone too. It was really...
You don't need a newer style flasher, even though that should also resolve it. If you take out the indicating bulb in your old flasher, it should all work fine. From there, if you then substitute an LED indicator bulb, it should also work, and so will the indicator. It is a resistance thing...
The fuel gauge system on these trucks is the lowest cost thing I have ever seen. My gauge and sender were both bad. Gauge was shot for whatever reason, and my sender has a copper/brass float that was full of fuel (pinhole in it). I replaced it with a newer design that uses a plastic float.
Start with diagnostics. There may be air in the system, check the coolant level again. If still running hot, feel the top radiator hose when gauge reads over 200F to see if it is hot or cold. If cold, your stat is likely stuck closed. If hot, then your fan switch is likely not working...
Sorry, no I didn't do a pictorial. Mine changed overnight after an off-road adventure, so I knew it was not normal. Mine was butter smooth to begin with. After off-roading, it would slam on the 2-1 at about 7mph. I carefully observed the trans modulator cable, and saw it is spring loaded (on...
