As one of my instructors who happened to be a preacher told me years ago:
"Keep thy airspeed up, lest the ground come up and smite thee."
As pointed out above, rising terrain is just about the only sure fire killer of A-10's.
Where are you in Texas?
I have taken a pair of M35's to parades, asked people if they wanted to drive one, showed them how it worked and had trouble getting them out after the parade was over.
A normal engine hoist will not pick it up. However, a normal engine hoist already up will hold the engine if you use a chain hoist to pick it up. I wouldn't walk under it, but if you are short of large equipment, it will get the job done.
The military switched over to silicone BFS in the 1970's. Your 1997 truck should have it. If in doubt, put some of what is int he truck in a glass or clear jar. First off, it will be yellow/green ish or purple more than likely.
Add a little bit of water to the jar, shake it up and then let...
I have seen Chris take his to some crazy places off road. Some of those places I really didn't want to follow in my M715.. Try it as is. Then see if you need to change it. Not many people get a truck with red valve coves and a porch.
I wrote it was just a guess.
A year ago I was at AB Linn's place in NC. I had a list of Gasser specific parts I was going down. He finally said something like this. "We used to go to auctions after the multifuel came out and there would be OA331's lined up in rows. Brand new never fired up...
I have two, have passed on two others around me, know of between 6 and 15 here on SS and have seen magazines with Gassers who are owned by people not SS members. Not really anyway to get an accurate count. I would guess however that there are less than 20 running, driving, painted and...
These alternators are really easy to take apart. Start with a clean work surface, undo the 4 bolts and pull the halves away from each other. Undo the windings from the rear and then you have 4 parts that can be pulled out of the rear part of the case. Very simple and straight forward. The...
Where are you going to take a collector vehicle in Wisconson in January? Now, if he was trying to title a Sno-cat, then the January restriction would be stupid. Wheeled vehicle used for shows and such in the eyes of the law, not so much.
M35 parts? What do you need? My wife is on her way to Scott and White right now as I type. I will be up there next Monday to go flying, so getting stuff to you is easy.
I don't remember the name or the phone number, but there is a place NW of Austin on US-183. He has a lot of parts if none...
Check the connections on the black out selector switch at the dash. Then work you way back to the lights. You are correct that it sounds like a loose ground or wire somewhere. They all go the switches on the dash and figured that is a good place to start.
Water makes it kind of milky. Orange seems like something added that shouldn't have been. What color is your coolant? If it is orange, start saving for a new radiator.
Buy 4 gallons of transmission fluid. Once you do the pan pull and filter swap, pour in the first gallon, fire it up, put...
You have think in the "pack mentality" the military traveled by. A single M35 going someplace was not near as common as 4 or more going someplace. By number, 25% or so of trucks were winch trucks. Also, for the most part. Logistical supply trucks didn't go anyplace the engineers hadn't been...
Is your on/off switch on? It could be on and exciting the alternator. As pointed out above, power goes from the batteries through the big line to the alternator and the # 11 wire to the breaker on the firewall. Might want to unplug 11 at the breaker and then see what happens with the...
It was a fun time. What was neat to me during the drive to and from town was the stop lights. 3 multifuels lined up in front of me. When the light would change, a whistle would grow and then a black cloud would form. Followed by the same sequence two more times. It was kind of fun to watch...
