I believe your problem is in the actuator unit on the steering column and not the ross box .. Have not had your exact problem but one of my M51's has a faulty actuator unit.. It fights against a driver when trying to steer to right but steers normal otherwise.. Others in their threads on SS...
I enjoy seeing tactical vehicles outfitted for utility or other special civ jobs as well .. That mog sounds cool.
In the mid-1980's I recall an area tree company with a jimmy M211 (hydramatic deuce) carrying a custom boom with interchangeable attachments (cherrypicker, manbucket, and hyd saw)...
I concur 110% .. I will add it might take some time for it to accumulate enough carbon to be noticeable if it's a recent issue
I also advise everyone the following six ancient wisdoms when having wife or gf help you as "soldier B" ,,,
1: per Murphy, tasks take longer than they should

got a speeding ticket with my m38a1 a long time ago... when i pushed for a probable cause, cop fumbled a bit and then said i was doing 65... i shoulda gone back for a look at his alleged readout.. i fought it by handing the judge the TM bookmarked on the page where is says "max speed" ...

.... until i get her mad ;) .... deutsch/italian mix.. she worked on and off in her father's construction company from the late-70's into the 1990's .. yes she's a bit younger than me
Am glad you enjoyed your time ... My last 5 or 6 years with the armor battalion left me only wishing it were the earlier years and Sp5 again .. Only a few times in the earliest ARNG years did I consider going back to active duty, but I had gained two ranks since and would've forfeited if I had...
I had spent time as asst plt sgt as well as acting platoon sgt and it def was not my bag.. The command part did not come natural to me and I never grew into it.. Even back as a Sp5 (and subsequent Sgt) I did not enjoy delegating a rough duty or bad gig.. Instead, I would be right there doing it...
I loved the slot.... I refused two consecutive E6 promos because I was set up very well and quite comfortable and working mostly-independent as a Sp5 .. As long as the work got done they left me alone, and they let me get it done without interference.. But in short time I was inevitably getting...
A couple of my guys in '88 or '89 .. The M52 is one of the several gassers the BN still fielded .. It had also been fielding A1's, A2's, and M809-series simultaneously with the gassers since the 1970's Made things interesting at fueling time for a few of the "new guys" over the years :LOL...
