What have you Done To or With Your M880/890-series this week?

The end of mud season brings the obligatory rut removal day .. I don't put wear on the dozer undercarriage when an easy backdrag (usually) works ! ;) Murphy's Law likes the month of March.. It has been in the 40's and decent for a couple weeks now and sap is running nicely.. So you see a...

    Hydraulic problems on M817 Dump

in the process of everything, did you lose a woodruff key(s) in the pto driveshaft? If so, the shaft might appear to spin but be slipping the second you move the hoist lever .. That would also explain the gradual worsening of the situation.. It's one of the possibilities, look at the easiest...

    Please recommend a transfer switch

where's your sense of fun and adventure ? I had one hanging on the back wall of the "storefront" at my shop .. Once in awhile I'd get a customer whose eyes would go wide 🤪

    Please recommend a transfer switch

A transfer switch has to be sized no less than the rated amperage of the utility service .. It doesn't matter if the draw on the genny and genny size is less.. In most cases you will have to get the utility involved to pull the meter unless you are a service tech with your own meter seals...

Manual transmission swap and stock locker road manners

I had to do the whole pedal set/A-frame with a 70's plymouth when I swapped in a 4-banger. It was a PITA to R/R it... So you can imagine I was very happy to discover I didn't have to do that with the M880 , the capability to add the clutch pedal was already there! :D On the M880, I supported...

Manual transmission swap and stock locker road manners

Not with chevies but it's an "easy" swap in a M880-series, which already has the correct A-frame assy under the dash for adding a clutch pedal, and the tranny/xfer adapter & mounts are the same between standard and automatic.. If the same is true for chevy, you will be glad you did it ;) the...

    Containers for wmo/wmo mix

When I was first starting out with WVO about 30yrs ago, I employed a gaggle of jerrycans and did the mixing by hand, dumping from one can to another.. For storage, I relied on the growing stash of plastic 5-gallon motor/hyd/gear oil pails. This kept handling weight to a minimum.. Those oil...

    1952 Studebaker M35?

I had a 1953 studebaker M108 wrecker , had a 1955 curtis-wright M35 (parts donor now), and still have a 1963 utica-bend M49C. Weight-to-hoist capy ratio, that M108 was a very efficient and impressive little truck compared to my M62 .. And a "yes" goes out to Longhunter7,,,, Reo did make the...

    Introduction and pictures

Several army national guard and air national guard units were still fielding M37's up into 1976-77,,, because that was when the majority of M880/890's/usaf commercial D200's started to roll in, and also there were many units which never received any M715's ... The M715 was intended to replace...

    Out of Round Tires

For those out there pounding on tires, I've been changing big tires since 1974 as well as loading them with liquids and done plenty of bead and sidewall repairs. Learned a lot of tricks the hard way or by observing the professionals. A neighbor introduced me to his bestest shop friend about 20...

tubes for 35" tires in a 31" tire fitment ?

have not seen that name.. I no longer buy new tires for anything except one car... I buy 99% of my tires used-guaranteed from a truck salvage yard.. I don't do enough miles anymore.. Heck, I still have a pallet stacked with eight Hawk 1100x20 NDCC's with 90% tread which were trucked from...

    Out of Round Tires

If your front end play is good , your "new" tires likely have a flat spot from sitting a long time. Jack it up, spin the tires and see if you can see a flat spot. If there's a spot going outwards in the other direction, yikes. But most-likely you have a flat spot and they will do one of three...

    Out of Round Tires

Technically not split rim but we all know what you mean... M37's, M715's, deuces, 5-tons, and 10-tons all have a split lockring type wheel.. A true "split rim" is exactly that, and a rare sight these days... The rim itself is split entirely all the way across its width. It uses a solid...

tubes for 35" tires in a 31" tire fitment ?

yep, I agree . .There is some good stuff out there.. I was being very broad about the situation without intent to slam every import. You hit it right on the head.. In the US there are many who jump at price without considering quality. I myself have done it and have been bitten.. In the US we...

tubes for 35" tires in a 31" tire fitment ?

1: I concur with gringeltaube .. You could get creases / overlaps when you assemble it, which will create friction "sores" and could eventually fail.. It does depends on how far "off" the tube is, the type of use or speed it will see, and the thickness of the tube.. This is true with any...

    5 Ton armor?

If you can't find any kits avail, you can always install the armor-up kits the army provided us to practice with in the 70's-80's. Sandbags on the floor and a flak jacket to sit on  .. Definitely fits the 5-ton M39-series and M809-series.. I don't know whether they fit the...

Diamond-T 4T 6x6 tidbits found at stone quarries in the 1980's

Thanks! The only WW2 heavies I am familiar with are the LaFrance M1A1, CCKW, and M5H6's.. Grew up near a road-building outfit that ran them regularly from 1946-1975 and learned which was what by the time i was a teen.. I could also tell just by the sound of the engine, what was coming up the...
