Did a three hour, 80% load test on one of my 803A's a couple of days ago.
Need to change out the return lines on the other now that I received the 3.5mm hose in the mail. Got the Ts at local Carquest.
You did a really nice job on that loadbank, its a pattern for anyone who likes to fabricate to work from or copy. I screwed four of them together in a similar setup but have not cased it yet.
I think my elements were $17 and change also but that was last year.
Search fleabay for 5400w dryer element and look for this picture. The prices are all over the place so pick one that suits your pocketbook.
I didn't use any thermostats, just a fan.
See my above post for the correct terminal ends for the wire.
Remove the plug without distorting it too badly and measure it then go to an auto parts store and get a replacement. Dorman makes all sizes plugs.
If you cant find a replacement metal one, use an expanding rubber one that has the nut on it that you tighten. A very thin skin of silicone sealant...
A mouse can fit through a hole the size of a dime. That 1/2X1/2 expanded metal is really not the best stuff to use.
1/4 inch hardware cloth is about as large as you want to go to be sure they won't get in.
A simple piece of aluminum with 4 or five 1/4 inch holes in it will suffice to keep out...
I thought about doing the same thing.
My plan is to run an inline fused wire from the positive battery cable at the starter to a switch mounted inside the engine compartment, then to two LED lights, one on each side of the engine compartment, and a RED indicator LED through a spot on the...
When I got my first 803a without the fuse mod, is used a waterproof in line fuse holder with an automotive type blade fuse @3amps because I had a pile of them on hand.
I bought a bunch of the Buss type holders and fuses as are usually seen in most photos and replaced it later.
My panel light LED replacements came in today. They are rated for 12-24v so I pulled one out and put it on a 12v supply.....man these are bright with a nice white light!
Will install three in each set tomorrow and see how they look after dark. Thanks to Overdrive for the references to this great...
I was thinking the same thing. It is a viable alternative as long as the alternator shaft still turns and it hasn't smoked a bearing.
If the alternator seizes up, you'd need some type of idler pulley setup to put in its place for the belt to run on to continue turning the water pump with the...
Just to keep the thread up to date, I installed the new S8 on the 803a but still getting an overload condition and load disconnect after 12 minutes of load using two 5400w dryer elements. This is with battle short OFF. I have not tried with battle short ON and really don't want to as the set...
Having an external way to apply the load to an ALREADY CLOSED K1 can never be a bad thing.
If if you have to replace a K1 because the contacts have arched, pitted or welded together from applying the load through them, you will pay a lot more money than if you had to purchase an external...
If you feel your device has to be potted, I don't think it's cased and/or interfaced with the outside world correctly.
Yes potting may be cheap and expedient, but it just transfers stresses to other parts and prevents any future serviceability.
Potting is usually done as a security measure or...
