Wow, time flies! I've been too busy with my M1028, K1500 and my friend's M1008 to get around to working on this tow bar. I bought a tow eye a while back for this project.
Not sure how to mount it. I would like it centered, like how it is laid out in the second picture, but I think it would...
He's good to go onto the public road again! MOT passed.
Right after passing the MOT, we drove up to the exhaust shop. We have a price and a date. The 10th of October she will be getting a stainless exhaust.. They say they only need to keep it for one day. Stainless crossover and turbo-back.
I've once got a quote for a rebuild here in the Netherlands. It's cheaper or about the same price to buy one from the US! @Swfb found a local source for rebuild ones for I believe €750. If you decide to replace yours, ask him about it. Shipping from NL shouldn't be very expensive.
Once they start the MOT inspection they have to put it in the system. Once they do, they can get tagged for a random inspection by the authorities and the vehicle will have to stay there. The MOT inspector can loose his license over this. Some are less paranoid then others, but it's been getting...
The truck did not pass inspection. Just some minor issues.
- Exhaust leak at crossover to manifold. We will fix this with some exhaust gum as it's getting a custom stainless exhaust in the near future anyway.
- VIN on frame could not be found. We found it.
- Steering pump and gear where wet and...
Yesterday I picked up my new rear leaf springs at the nearby FedEx center. Also got a call from the painter, my parts where done.
A little while ago I ordered 4 fuel filter bases, 2 Carter P4070 lift pumps and a bunch of Baldwin fuel filters. It kind off annoyed me at first that they sent...
New shocks and steering damper have been installed. VDO gauges have been installed, but we did not install the EGT sensor yet. No pictures. I'll take some tomorrow if I don't forget. Bench seat has been dropped off to get re-upholstered.
We've have an appointment for an MOT this Wednesday...
6.5 Ambulances had dual alternators. Still 12V though. I believe one member successfully converted one of the alternators to isolated ground to mimic the CUCV 24V setup, but it wasn't easy.
The brackets are very rare. There used to be people selling laser cut brackets. I had one laser cut...
Blazer/Suburban tank will fit. Fairly easy to do. You need a piece of angle iron and re-use the factory spare tire brace. Google it, plenty of forum posts and videos. May I suggest getting a plastic tank? Easiest is to have the filler in the bed. I'm having someone move the fuel filler door...
The v-belt system can be swapped for the serpentine. You will convert to 12v in the process. The 6.5 turbo will work with your 6.2. You'd need to get short body injectors or space the passenger side exhaust manifold (I think some use double gaskets). You could swap the heads. 6.5 injectors are...
I used the given measurements and they're pretty spot on. I used my cutter to cut the shape from paper so I can match things up. Only the bolt holes next to the wastegate seem to be about 1mm to 2mm off.
Did you use a gasket on the flange? If I'm having this cut from steel, I can have one...
If it is a loose rocker arm, have a look at these 2 topics. IMO better then replacing the nylon retainers.
