Thank you for the spacer idea. My friend's truck came with a turbo, but the older style long body injectors and return hoses are touching the exhaust manifold. I will be talking to him about making spacers before we drop it off at the exhaust shop to get an exhaust made.
Will that gasket maker...
Rock Auto has one for about $63. With shipping and import fees I can have it in Europe for $92 (€74). Still a bit expensive for a switch I guess, but way cheaper then Oregon Fuel Injection. Would be interesting to see alternatives. Preferably with the same thread?
Rick, do you use Oregon Fuel...
I've been slowly piecing together parts to swap the 14 Bolt rear axle with a Dana 70HD (dually) to run HMMWV rims without spacers. I might have to scrap that idea.
I had already exchanged the hubs for the 14 Bolt hubs so they don't stick out from the rims and installed disc brake conversion...
It's probably way more expensive here (Europe) to have things custom made then in the USA. It almost sounds like on every other street corner you guys have a spring, exhaust, axle, etc. shop. We don't have that and when you do find a shop it is expensive. Just as an example, got quoted € 1750...
I kinda mixed things up in my post. Was in a hurry to leave for work.
But check the thread on the installer. Most come with standard thread, but you need fine thread M16. Don't use the original bolt to install the balancer. It will not engage with enough thread and you risk stripping the thread...
Double check the thread on the balancer puller you ordered. It's M16x1,5 (fine thread). You definitely don't want to strip those threads in the crank... Did you get an installer as well?
I'm sure Rick can get you the pulley. That reminds me, I still have to PM him about the one I asked him to...
I bought a rocker panel for my K1500 a couple of weeks ago. RA wanted $180 for shipping to my freight forwarder in the US. I then found Raybuck, panel itself was a little bit more expensive, but $11,95 for shipping.
Check these speaker brackets out. Member @Mad Texan recently installed these or similar. Looks easy enough to copy if you feel like it.
I LOVE the 6.2/6.5 diesel sound. I bet if I had my truck idling next to my bed I'd sleep better. But, on a cross-country trip like you are planning it would be...
Great work man. Been following this thread and giving likes, but I just had to "say" it! This project of yours is close to being a restoration. :D (y)
I can recommend getting a MIG welder. At my previous employer they made and repaired their own things and I got acquainted with welding. Never...
Rick, you might want to remove any timing covers and oil pans before you scrap those engines. Pretty sure you'll be able to sell them and make someone happy with those. I believe those parts are getting rarer now. Same goes for the V belt pulleys, especially the steering pump pulley, I believe...
Noted. My idea was mount it to the bed above the wheel well. Brackets attached to the side panel.
I was already thinking about adding another plates on-top of the existing ones. Making them thicker. I could've ordered thicker iron, but this is what I had at the moment. Then again, I have to...
Thanks! Been teaching myself how to (MIG) weld the last 3 years so. Trial and error and lots of YouTube videos .
The military tow bars aren't that plentiful on this side of the pond. I guess that's 1 vote adding extra flat bar on top of the current ones.
I would like to have it...
Hey guys,
I might need to move my M1009 soon, so I started fabricating a tow bar today. I want to keep it around and mount it in the bed of my M1028 by the time I get to that. Who knows when it might come in handy.
Tube is 40mm (1 9/16" )square tubing with 4mm (5/32") thick walls. The flat...
For the damper, I recently put Dayco on my K1500 6.5 and one on my friends M1008. I made my own puller and installer. Do you have a welding machine there? It's not too expensive and since you want to do it right, just change it. Get a new crank pulley to go with it, it has a large rubber part in...
Check your hitch mounting. I've read about those being weak and seen pics of them broken. With proper mounting I've towed 17000+ lbs with my M1028 6.2 and regularly with my K1500 6.5 TD. One time I even towed close to 40k with the M1028, but that was on a closed off market square. Those do have...
On my friends truck we just made hydraulic hoses to replace the transmission lines. They now go up from the transmission and over the passenger side inner fender. I guess you can cut the hard lines and put rubber hose with a hose clamp on, I've seen this done, but don't like it. Flare the...
Almost forgot. The truck got 2 new Optima Red Tops. We made a battery tray for them using angle iron and using the original mounts to the outer and inner fenders. You can also see some of the work in progress re-wiring in the following shots.
We removed the exhaust stack from the bed and...
