FYI, operating the alternator with the brush retaining pin installed usually destroys the regulator among other things. You are lucky you had it hooked up wrong and discovered the brush retaining pin first.
When I re-stenciled my trucks, I tried to match the style that was previously on the truck. All of them are different, so I didn't get too concerned with trying to match a specific TM.
Take the alternator off and remove the rear end casting to tighten the loose bolt. It's easy to do. Depending on which bolt you are talking about, if you try using an impact wrench you may end up breaking the insulator or bolt.

I hit the rust with a wire brush and then use Tractor Supply red oxide primer on the rusty areas. I paint over the primer with Behr. No problems with adhesion.
