    Air Brake Question

You've gotten my curiosity peaked. What is the model/designation of the trailer? Its just such an unusual piece, and my 5-ton says the pintle is rated/limited to 15000 lbs(I dont believe it, but uncle wanted it folowed) and 14ton is a little north of that.

    Dot3,4,5, why

Just a small historical perspective. The switch to air brakes was partially prompted by heavy trucks trying to stop, and BOILING their brake fluid. Now, when a fluid, lets say DOT 3 absorbs water, and the brakes get hot enough to boil said water, well, that moisture does not return to the MC...

    Fuel Economy M35A2 vs M35A3

FWIW the A3 fuel adjustment is covered in TM 9-2320-386-24-1-2 . Somewhere along the line someone made an "alteration". However, the "E" rating for the 3116 is at 2800rpm

ever get a load of gas in your CUCV?

When I worked for Mopar back in the 80's, a man put a full load of diesel in his Omni. Ran ok once it was warm, smoked like a coal burning train though. Once cold, wouldn't burn it at all. Ive also seen the other way, way more catastrophic than has been related here. Once a Dodge Ram...

How many ways does government liquidation suck let me count the ways!

My experiences with them have been mixed. If an EUC was involved, it wasn't pretty, however, the local guys all seem to be great, dedicated worker-bees. I just cant seem to figure out two things. First, why GSA doesnt require one for the same item, and Second, why every branch of the...

    Steering Lash

You can produce anything you want, and call it whatever you like, but if there is no standard to back it up, it may as well have come from a sweat shop in China.

    Steering Lash

Again, there is no ASTM or ANSI standard for L9. It is a trademark. As to the referenced ANSI (A574) standard, yes it has a higher ield and tensile strength han grade 8, but is strictly referencing socket head cap screws, not hex bolts. Kastein has the right idea, in that he is trying to...

    Steering Lash

The problem with those "Stronger than Grade 8" bolts is there is no standard to back it up. ANSI and ASTM have only specified for a Grade 8. and I quote "Engineer's Edge" "Grade 12" is not a valid material condition or 'call out' to SAE, ASTM, or ASME specifications.Grade 8 is the highest...

    Truck Markings

Only the early 809 series had the tubular grill, and if it went through a rebuild it got the heavier flat-stock version.

2 bridge trucks in scrap iron yard

My dislexia hit me hard the day before yesterday appearantly. I read M812, and saw M821. The Transfer PTO has two variations. One for UOC 622(M816), and the other for UOCs 614, 621, and 636 (M815, M812a1, and M819 w/w). If anybody finds an M812A1, Please get it or at least get pictures!

    What is this truck/box

Again, it cant be a 1087, unless somewhere along the line it lost its box, and found this one on the side of the road. And if you've removed the box, well, then its a 1036. May I refer you to FMTV A1 R M1087 A1 - BAE Systems , read the paragraph "construction" I agree, Doghead is correct, but...

    What is this truck/box

I dont believe its a 1087. It has fenders over the rear wheels like it is intended to operate without its box. And the box has no windows. The box appears to be a command or radio shelter in a 20' shipping container (conex). Probably an M1036 and an M944 or MTVR converted to an LHS...
