Stop! What glow plugs do you have? Unless they are Delco 60G glow plugs. Holding more than 10 seconds can cause them to burn out, swell or even explode inside the pre cup. You can do 10 seconds, but I wouldn't do anymore. Have you replaced the glow plugs yet? 10mm socket and a cold engine...

Timing chains don’t break all that often. I can’t remember ever even reading about a broken 6.? Timing chain. Stretch, yes. But they still run fine. How is does your harmonic balancer look when the engine is running? Wobble?

I would suggest pulling the axle end off. Then slide the slip yoke in all the way until it bottoms out. Pull it back out 1.5 inches. Mark the slip yoke with a Sharpie or something. Now, while trying to keep the marked line in place. Hole the axle end up and measure how short it is from fitting...

Look above your parking brake pedal housing. You have to mash your head against the brake pedal to really see it. On the top of the housing is a single screw holding a 6 pin ground terminal. All of the under dash ground wires end up there. Take the single screw out, clean it with sand paper...

That is too far out. I would suggest a new drive shaft tube or if your rear end is sagging some. An Off Road Design add a leaf which will let you move the rear axle forward an inch. An extra bonus is the rear of the truck will get a one inch boost.

NP208/241? The slip yoke is supposed to be 1" to 1-1/2" from bottoming out against the seal with the truck sitting level. What are you at? Anymore that 1-1/2" away from the seal at rest and a new rear drive shaft should be considered.

Spicergear did this swap about 10 years ago. Tom had a good bit of fitment issues if I remember correctly. But, it did fit and work great. Search for Spicergear and you will be amazed at the quality of work and sheer ingenuity on display.

When you go to install the new one. Keep your fingers away from the gear teeth. It is a very easy job to do, but those arms are spring loaded and if you fingers are in the way, the gears will win.

Is the IP timing line still lined up with the line on the timing cover? If so, unless you used a Snap On lumy mag timing machine or one of the induction pulse converters since the balancer change to reset the timing. The balancer has no effect on timing.
