I looked at the photos and was wondering about the picture with all the black smoke coming out of the genset. Was the unit under load. That much black smoke doesnt look normal to me. I have had a few of these ASK units and for piece of mind I remove all the panels to do an inspection on the...
Sorry 0546 is the glow plug copper. I just went to the garage to double check, 147-0043 is the wafer like gasket, 110-0419 is copper and I have another copper in a Onan bag 0147-0243 labeled as nozzle gasket much smaller than the rest that I thought went on the end of the nozzle.
I had an 003 that would start at 1800 rpm with the the throttle cable all the way in. It was a rebuilt unit and I thought maybe the military did this to stop burning up regulators. I never got to figure out the way it was adjusted (sold it during Sandy). I would definately check all the cable...
147-0043 is a gasket, 110-0419 gasket and I thought 110-0546 is the little copper ring that fits inside the head, been a while since I pulled one and this was on my note pad. Check to be sure.
Call Cummins in Newark,NJ ask for parts, they will connect you with the warehouse, give them the part numbers you need, your credit card and Fedex delivers them to you next day. I got alot of gaskets and parts direct from them.
Take a look at the muffler and check for any signs of previous wet stacking. Some tar like drips or a black line from the muffler flange. It takes along time to burn off residual oil that may have accumulated in the exhaust system. I have an 005 that smoked lightly for almost a day before it...
I don't think so there was only a couple of small chips inside the front case and no metal mud, it broke and shut right down. I have 6 more of these engines on various generators so I guess this will be a parts donor. From what I would assume the oil pump may have failed/seized so who know what...
NJ_Toolnut had a similiar situation but he found a loose nut inside the front cover which got caught up in the gears, I didn't find anything inside of mine.
Finally got around to pulling the broken engine apart. It appears as if the oil pump shaft let loose and the loose gear broke the crank gear. The unit ran fine for about 14 hours during the storm and the just quit. Is this common or just an isolated incident?
Generator build
I have been working on this a while and now its up and running. Took an old frame, a rebuilt 003 engine I won, and then added some new modern parts. This is a 16kw stamford type generator with a solid state AVR. Only single phase but puts out 240volts @ 65 amps and the engine...
Back to the original question. Its looks like you have a MEP 003 10KW generator. To the best of my knowledge, manufacturer doesn't matter all the parts interchange no matter who built it. Download the manuals, read them and have fun with your new green addiction.
