Good questions! Yes the whine changes with engine RPM. I can hear it through my two way radio and my stereo...when it worked. I was installing a capacitor on the back side of the alt when I noticed the insulator on the back side on the ground lead. Im wondering in my 1008 had a isolated ground...
I know the passenger side alternator has an isolated ground for the 24 volt side of the system. There is a phenolic insulator on the (-) ground lead on the alternator. I looked at the drivers side alternator and it has the same phenolic insulator. Ive got a wicked alternator whine on the 12 volt...
If fuel is running out the back of the center gallery then its probably the throttle shaft seals (O rings) They run through the sides of the pump. Its a fairly easy fix. You'll need to take off the intake manifold to pull the shaft completely out, remove the o rings install new ones. reinstall...
The TM-20 is designed for the average mechanic...it has great step by step troubleshooting. The military spent a lot of time and money developing them. Believe me it saved me a lot of wasted time and $ following the steps. I wish I had a similar manual for my other vehicles
Warthog is the man! You have to follow his advise and use the dash 20 manual...Power to the GP relay...power to the GP side when the WAIT light is on...power to the GPs...check the resistance on the GPs...5 out of 8 zero ohms! Threw in a new set of 60 Golfs....VAROOOM starts like a jackrabbit on...

You are correct the TMs are the bible. I was just checking to see if board members had similar experiences and if their relays make an audible click while cycling
Thanks
I have the original GP relay in my 86 M1008. It has never made a "clunk" when it functions. Ive been in other CUCvs and 80s diesel Chevys and I always recall hearing a clunk as the relay cycles. Even my Dodge Cummins has a "clunk" in the relay. My M1008 has always been a hard starter. When I...
Are you using water that has been "softened" using salt as your radiator water along with anti-freeze? All softened water along with potable water that is produced through desalinization has a trace of salt remaining. Salt=corrosion. I had a salt water softener in my other house...corroded my...
My truck left me stranded at Home Depot. Got the dreaded clunk on the starter relay but no starter...figured the original starter gave up. After a tow home ordered a new starter...for grins I crawled underneath and looked at the old one...lo and behold noticed one of the long starter casing...
As to your IP leak mine had the same (leaking fuel out the back of the engine) I removed the intake manifold and bought a IP rebuild kit. Remove the top of the injector pump and pull out the throttle shaft that runs across the pump. (The o rings are rotted and thats why its leaking) Replace the...
Check the driveshaft make sure its not bent and the connection between the transmission and the transfer case. DRMOs are notorious for moving trucks with a forklift.
